The time has come to make the annoucement of our new Tackle and Flag football league coming to St. Mary's County in 2013. We have been working behind the scenes with sponsors to be able to provide a new league for everyone. We have also been working with the County on this program. The league will cost the Parents a onetime membership fee of $175.00. More details to come, but yes that is correct $175.00 onetime membership fee to be in the all new St. Mary's County Youth Tackle and flag football league.

We will start our new league with the 2013 spring flag season. We will use this fall season in the county to watch the other tackle programs and learn from their mistakes.

We have already learn that the Parents have been charged an arm in a leg to be in youth sports.

Examples

Flag football registration $80 to join a season... Player gets a jersey and trophy. The NFL charges the leagues $20 a player. This gets the league a ball, flags and jerseys. So where does the other $60 they charge go?

Tackle football registration ranges from $150 to $200 per player. This gets you a trophy at the end of the season. Then if you want your jersey they charge you $20 plus to keep it. So trophies are like $5 when you buy them in bulf, so where does the money go?

We are a true non profit league, that means we don't just say we are like other leagues in the county. (Wildcats are also a true non profit league as you can search and see that, can't find the other two tackle programs and flag league)

Youth Sports are for the kids and that is why you will be able to allow your child to play their youth sports years for only $175.00. There are NO other fees ever. Sponsors will help with the other fees that it takes to run leagues.

More details to come.........

Moving in the right direction...

We met with all of the local High Schools this past week and we will be working with each High School in the area that your Child will attend High School.

We also have several new sponsors that are willing to help with the one time registration fee.

More to come.

Pop Warner?

I was part of a Pop Warner startup years ago (okay decade plus)... Biggest problem was truly finding other teams to play... City/County leagues rarely carry enough insurance to meet the minimums... Our kids had to travel some pretty good distances around state to play other Pop Warner teams and others that met the right objectives...

Good luck, it was a LOT of work!

You met with the high schools? I am very good friends with the Leonardtown H.S. Coach and he told me that he has never been contacted by you.

Just curious why you would say that and not have done it. Programs should be run like the Wildcats are doing with Leonardtown High School. The high school football coach is working directly with them and has implimented the high school scheme throughout the youth level. That's a prime reason to be in a specific youth league if your children will be playing at that high school.

Otherwise it's just a bunch of random learning occuring with no common goal.

I would think the reason the cost is so high is because football equipment costs so much and needs to be reconditioned every year. Just my thoughts.

:bs: Established leagues have a hard time finding businesses that will sponsor one child at $150.

He's running a youth league in St. Mary's. Lying is a requirement.

So a onetime membership fee is going to buy and maintain pads, helmets, footballs, cones, shields, standup dummies, balls, equipment bags, jerseys, pants and all other equipment needed? Or will it be like other fb leagues that have the player purchase their own equipment?

Where are you going to practice and where are you going to play? Who will you be playing against? Are there even enough kids to support 4 football clubs in St. Mary's? Are you planning on becoming AYF or Pop Warner or whatever, or just a local league?

The onetime membership fee is going to be enough to pay for insurance? And refs?
