New Tactics Against Global Warming

How about we fix the problems instead of creating more... Man what are some of these scientists smoking when the come up with these ideas. All we need is a huge mirror in orbit along with all the other junk floating up there. just wait till that thing gets hit by a meteor and comes crashing down.....:jameo:

It helps to actually read the article.

Also, how can we "fix the problem" if we don't know what the cause of the problem is or if it even exists at all?

Well...

...we can dismiss science and ideas and just sit in our mashed potatoes or we can do what humans do and figure it out.

Go touch a black cars hood on a sunny day. Then a white one. Just hold your hand over it. Notice anything?

Ever walk down a sidewalk on a hot day? Barefoot? Then hit the pavement, the asphalt, of the driveway? Back to the concrete? Notice anything?

Is there any less energy or heat hitting us when we wear a white T shirt vs. a gray one? How about wool vs. cotton?

What about buildings? Should we just throw our hands up in the air when someone smoking dope suggests some materials might be better than others in terms of energy?

Imagine the reaction to the first time someone said 'Hey, I think I can make it rain!". Seeding clouds is not myth. It ain't perfect, but it does work.

So, what of tinting the ocean? The ice caps? Maybe some sort of additive to gasoline that tints the air in a fashion that isn't even noticeable yet improves airflow or even reflects energy into space?

As has been said, our only limitation is our imagination.

I think the limitation here is that there are 4 possible outcomes.
A) not everyone thinks there is a problem.
B) not everyone who thinks there is a problem thinks it should be fixed ('let nature run its course').
C) not everyone thinks there is a problem worth fixing ('it's not bad enough, yet').
D) there is a problem and we can engineer our way out of it because we are smart like that.

So you have at least 4 choices that can/will effect everyone and everything on the face of the planet. To me, it sounds like it will be pretty tough to find a consensus (especially if we can't even agree that there is a problem to begin with).

Nice assumption on your part. What makes you think it didnt?.

Well the scientists in the article seem to think there is a problem. Why else would they dream up these ideas if there wasnt.
Apparently you think the Theory of Global warming is true, if not, then why post the article.

from the article said:
Worried about a potential planetary crisis, these leaders are calling on governments and scientific groups to study exotic ways to reduce global warming, seeing them as possible fallback positions if the planet eventually needs a dose of emergency cooling.
...
The paper "should not be taken as a license to go out and pollute," Dr. Cicerone said in an interview, emphasizing that most scientists thought curbing greenhouse gases should be the top priority.
Seems like a good assumption to me

I don't think I'm going to get into an accident in my car, but it has seatbelts and airbags. Being prepared for possibilities is prudent. Making massive changes without understanding the problem (or if it even exists) is not. If you don't understand the problem, solution X could actually make things worse.

Also, I don't have to believe in global warming in order to discuss it. It needs to be discussed because some people believe in it and want to make massive changes because of their beliefs. The changes they want to make affect everyone (including those that don't believe).

Really... Isnt that what I said earlier "How about we fix the problems instead of creating more... Man what are some of these scientists smoking when the come up with these ideas. All we need is a huge mirror in orbit along with all the other junk floating up there. just wait till that thing gets hit by a meteor and comes crashing down....." Yeah I think it was....

Well when its discussed usually someone pics a side of intrest.
-Side(not enough information on the subject to make a rational contribution)
-Side(people are killing the earth)
-Side(Its just a theory and the media is blowing this out of proportion and the scientific community cant agree on its own findings)
-Side(Im just going to throw something out in a forum and not base my descussion on anything but one article, then give bad Karma to someone that was only making comments on the outragous ideas some scientists have thought up. )

I think I know what side your on... thanks for the negitive Karma

So you throw out all ideas because you don't like one of them. Nice.

I throw out one article and discuss it. However, if you do a search, you will see that I have started several threads posting several articles and discussing them all. I have yet to see the proof that all the global warming believers base their belief on. Well actually, I have seen it and pointed out flaws in their "proof". Got some? Go ahead and provide it. Let's see what you got.

I did not give you karma. I always sign my karma (green or red). Want me to prove it? I'll give you some now. FYI, since you don't have 50 posts yet, you have zero power which means that your karma has no color.

I’m a firm believer that you fix something that’s broken, not create work-a-rounds. How about the scientists determine if global warming is real, what the causes are, and how to fix it. Not come up with trillion dollar space umbrellas, to shade the earth...... Every News Media outlet puts in their 2cents worth of Global warming theories and none can back it up. Oh they have 50 scientists that have data backing the theory, and then there are 50 more that can provide data to debunk it.

Why should we waste our time and tax dollars coming up with ideas to be prepared... We should be focusing our efforts to find the truth about the theory once and for all...

In fact, I just read a book last month called The State of Fear. Great book in my opinion.

Further more, Why should I provide proof in Global warming, when I don’t support the theory. I don’t know what led you to think I did, since I never stated it. What I said was fix the problem instead of creating more.

You came back with "It helps to actually read the article.
Also, how can we "fix the problem" if we don't know what the cause of the problem is or if it even exists at all?"

Then I said" Well the scientists in the article seem to think there is a problem. Why else would they dream up these ideas if there wasn’t."

I still cant find in my previous posts where I led you to believe I believe in Global warming
