New Truck/SUV?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a new SUV. It must be able to pull my horse trailer, so ideally a v8 engine. Also, it must be 4x4 and a 2000 or newer. No more than 60000 miles.

Any extras are nice, but otherwise I'm not too picky and will consider anything.

No more than 15000-17000$.

Any ideas or know where I can find one?

I looked there. Didn't find much of anything, but thank you for telling me about that site. =] I'll check back there every so often.

Good luck finding something to meet that criteria.

CarMax? Maybe try all the car dealerships. I would imagine Cash for Clunkers brought in a lot of SUV's to the local dealerships.

What can you all tell me about Koons Ford?

The prices at that dealership are ridiculously low compared to those at other dealerships. They get cars from prior leases, and some other program but how much would you actually trust those vehicles?

Also, can anyone tell me about the roll-over problem with Ford Explorers? I googled it but it said that it was 2-wheel drive, 2 doors mainly with the problems... so would I be okay with a 2006 4 wheel drive, 4 door v8 Ford Explorer? I definitely don't want a truck that I would have to worry about flipping over, especially when pulling a trailer..

I would imagine it's because of the short wheel base. That would happen to any vehicle with a higher center of gravity.

Cars turned in during "Cash for Clunkers" have to be destroyed/rendered inoperable in order for the dealerships to get their money from the government.

How much weight do you plan on hauling?
REMEMBER THIS!
It's not how much weight you can tow, but how much weight you can stop.

You make a good point. The trailer is 3100lbs, the horse is 1100lbs and if I ever put another horse, that's 800-1000lbs. So 42000-5000lbs. What would you recommend?

Good brakes on the trailer and a longer wheelbase (than an Explorer) vehicle.

Magnum

Should be Huntin

3/4 ton Suburban or Ford Excursion - Depending on the MPG you want you can get a Triton V10 Excursion cheap but they only get 5-10 MPG :lmao: You don't want a V8 in the Excursion as it would barely move itself up the road.

My 1/2 ton 2004 Suburban was great. I pulled a few cars up to Wv with it and had no problems. I traded mine in with 125,000 for $12,000 though, so you might have to go a little older to hit your price range.

Okay, well I've been looking around and unfortunately some of the bigger vehicles that you all have mentioned would just be too big for me and too big for daily use.

After reading these replies, would you purchase a car from Koons Ford?

Koons Ford Of Annapolis - Ford - Dealership Ratings

The internet price we saw on the vehicle was 15,995$. Then, when we got there they told us 16,800$ and said that it was because of "MSI" and that the vehicle needed new brakes and some other new things. Does that sound a bit shady to you? I'm definitely thinking misrepresentation. :(

Car dealers are bad business.

An Explorer is not a vehicle to pull a horse trailer with. Check out this site for good info on trailering...Horse Trailer World- Used trailers for sale, New trailers for sale, trailer classified ads, trailer manufacturer news and more.

There is a Full Size Ford E-150 Traveler edition van at Rosner Toyota in Stafford, Va. I was ready to buy it yesterday. Only problem is that it was too big for Dymphna to be comfortable driving it. $7169.00.
I test drove it and loved it.

a tahoe or silverado might fit your needs then, they are not to big for daily use, plenty of room inside for family.

i had a 97 silverado, i hauled my car trailer (roughly 1000 pounds probably) with a vehicle that was anywhere between 4000-5500 pounds with no issues, even stopping.

i now have a 09 silverado that has a higher gvrw and have no issues.

brakes on your trailer is a must, with that said - whatever vehicle you choose make sure you have the brake controller installed.
