New Vet

I'm looking around for a new vet for my 5lb dog. I've recieved good care for my dog but I think I'm being way overcharged. Yearly vaccines usually run me around $500. Any recommendations for a new vet?

Do some research...dogs do not need yearly vaccinations.

St Mary's is good, but $500 a year in vaccines is crazy. There are lost cost options available for vaccines. Just goto Petco and see the flier, but I agree with cattitude.

I think I have seen the fliers before but my current vet has always told me to be careful with the dosage and distrabution of the vaccines b/c my dog is so small.

That IS crazy. I paid less than that for all 3 of my animals shots/visits in the Spring of 2006. This past year, I took all 3 to the animal clinic and for the rabies/combo distemper and 2 were chipped it was less than $160.00. I had to drive to Charles County to take advantage of that.

Jameo, jwwb and a few others go to the Pet Clinic and swear by them.

I drive to Glymont in Indian Head and doubt you are looking to haul that far up the road.

Any St. Mary's recommendations? TIA!

Go to St. Mary's Veterinary Hospital. Talk to them. Most vets are active in continuing education and are aware of the vaccination "issue" as are the vet techs. There is concern that people will not get their pets yearly checkups, etc., i.e. heartworm checks and other exams (which are important for the older pets). My vet knows that I take care of my animals and am responsible and knowledgeable. I think that has something to do with them working with me and my concerns regarding the care of my pets.
