Newbie looking for a place

Hi all! :howdy: I discovered this place while looking for rentals in St. Mary's county. Considering I've lived in Waldorf for the last 6 years, its pretty sad that I didn't know about this forum till now.

So I got a question for ya'. First off, has anyone noticed how hard it is to find a decent priced rental around here or even that its difficult just to locate rentals? Anywho, I've got a lead on one place in the great mills area. Its off of Norris road, near the state park. Anyone local to there, could you please give me a bit of feedback on the neighborhood. I have two young kids and I just want to make sure that the area is a safe one. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day.

:howdy: Hi! Do you have the address and/or name of the subdivision? Are your kids in elementary or middle school (both local Great Mills schools are nice and very close to the area you mentioned).

I didnt realize a state park and Norris Rd went together. Maybe Im wrong. Also Norris rd may not be considered a good safe area to some.

Then you probably don't know about the classifieds, either:

Take a look - there are a bunch of rentals in there and some are even under $1000 a month :jet:

Thanks for your replies. I know nothing about the area except what I can map quest so if I didn't get it totally right on the area, I apologize for that in advance. I think the street is towey court and it appears to be off of norris road. (On the map) at the end of Norris, it runs into a part of the park. As I said, I could be wrong. It would also be elementary school age.

Thanks for the link too, I just discovered it about the same time :). I'll be going down to the leonardtown/California/Great Mills area this weekend to see if I can drive by some neighborhoods to check out if anyone is renting there also. I love the area and I just want to make sure I get a decent place ya' know?

WTF? Why do I get Red Karma for trying to help someone out??

I wouldn't live in Great Mills/Lexington Park area, unless it's South of the base near St. Mary's City. (Part of St. Mary's City has a Lex. Pk mailing address).

I'd personally look in Leonardtown, Hollywood, St. Mary's City, or Ridge.

I used to live in that area and never had any problems. Tubman-Douglas has a bad reputation but I haven't heard of any major problems there in the last several years. My kids went to Greenview Knolls and I liked the school. Keep in mind that this was about 13 years ago.

Pookieboo!!!
Great Mills might not be as bad considering you lived in Waldorf for the past 6 yars. Most of the people there are just wannabe thugs. What part of Waldorf do you live at?

The state park is at the end of Norris Rd and also the road at K-Mart. There considered the wetland part of the park which is primarily used for hunting. I have ridden my horse back in there and it's nice if ya like the woods... :lmao:

What about buying a home? I saw on RT 235 in Mechanicsville a rambler for sale. It looked cute with the white porch and I bet it is less than 300K. I think the area is Summerseat? I wouldn't want to move to Great Mills or Lexington Park.

Could it have been the puzzy?

Well I used to live in Silver Spring prior to moving to Waldorf so not alot surprises me anymore. Right now I'm living in the dorchester area and its an alright area.

Truthfully I'm not ready to buy right now, my plan is to try to find an affordable rental and save so I can buy something that will be within my means and more of what I need.

I really do appreciate all of your feedback. Thanks and I'm still scouting places out. I'd love to have an easier way to find rentals in the area. Its like trying to find Waldo.

LMFAO, that's too funny!

:yeahthat:

There is a house for rent on route 5 south. Somewhere between Great mills rd intersection and where hermanville meets 5. On your left as you go south on a incline. It appears to be a rambler, bluish-gray color siding. It's been for rent for some time so I don't know why it's still empty (price-condition or what). Looks nice from the rd.
