Two newcomers join four veterans to helm the NewsBreak anchor desk for the 2019-20 school year. NewsBreak is a CCPS TV program featuring information relevant to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS). The show, led by a solo anchor, includes features on students and staff, and important dates parents and students need to know.
New to the team this year are Brynna Bode, a junior at Henry E. Lackey High School, and Dominic Reid, a North Point High School senior.
Bode is a member of Lackey’s mock trial team, National Honor Society, the math team, It’s Academic, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Thespian Honor Society and the jazz and symphonic bands. Outside of school, Bode enjoys 4-H activities, playing the piano and participating in church activities. She plans to study engineering following graduation.
Reid has an interest in broadcast journalism. He is in the criminal justice Career and Technology program at North Point where he is involved in the school’s media and poetry clubs. He is a volunteer with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s Explorers program, works with Charles County Teen Court, volunteers at McGruff the Crime Dog events and at proms for people with special needs. In his downtime, he enjoys watching anime, reading comics, playing video games and skateboarding. After graduating, Reid is interested in attending an arts college and pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.
Bode and Reid will rotate hosting duties with La Plata High School seniors Ashton Gordon, Madelyn Mudd and Brianna High, and DeJuan Woods Jr., a senior at Thomas Stone High School who is the Student Member of the Board of Education.
Gordon enjoys performing and is a member of the National Thespian Society. She is the captain of La Plata’s Color Guard which performs with the school’s marching band. Gordon is the historian for the Class of 2020 and a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. Following graduation, Gordon plans to major in biology at Towson University and pursue a career in the medical field.
Mudd is involved in La Plata’s performing arts program and is president of school’s thespian society. She volunteers at her church and with the Port Tobacco Players. She plans to double major in communications and theater with a minor in Spanish at High Point University or University of South Carolina.
High is the Class President at La Plata and is involved in the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and Key Club. High participates in dissection classes at Milton M. Somers Middle School and volunteers at the History, Industry, Technology and Science (HITS) Expo. She also teaches piano lessons. Following graduation, High plans to study biology and English in college.
Along with serving as a NewsBreak anchor and Student Member of the Board, Woods is a two-term president of Stone’s chapter of the National Honor Society and president of its chapter of the International Thespian Society. He is a member of the school’s chamber choir and manages the girls’ varsity field hockey and lacrosse teams. Woods co-founded and sings with the ThomasTones, an a capella group at Stone. He plans to study theater education and vocal music education in college.
