The schedule is always deceiving. No team are who they were last season. With that said I think the Skins have a favorable schedule.

Two back-to-back home games in weeks two and three, six and seven, and nine and eleven. We play the Steelers in primetime Monday night and then play the Cowboys in primetime on Sunday night. However, the Bye week comes right in between the two primetime games.:yay:

You can't say that the Skins don't at least have 'some chances'.

Rest of the schedule...

Sept. 4 @ New York Giants 7 p.m. ET
Sept. 14 New Orleans Saints 1 p.m. ET
Sept. 21 Arizona Cardinals 1 p.m. ET
Sept. 28 @ Dallas Cowboys 4:15 p.m. ET
Oct. 5 @ Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m. ET

0-5 at this point. We're not beating the defending SB champs at home in the opener. The Saint's and Cards were about as good as us and they aren't starting from scratch. We're not beating Dallas at their place nor the Eagles. We're out of the playoffs at this point.

Oct. 12 St. Louis Rams 1 p.m. ET
Oct. 19 Cleveland Browns 4:15 p.m. ET
Oct. 26 @ Detroit Lions 1 p.m. ET
Nov. 3 Pittsburgh Steelers 8:30 p.m. ET
Nov. 9 BYE ---

Maybe we split these 4 and are 2-7 at the bye.

Nov. 16 Dallas Cowboys 8:15 p.m. ET*
Nov. 23 @ Seattle Seahawks 4:15 p.m. ET*
Nov. 30 New York Giants 1 p.m. ET*
Dec. 7 @ Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m. ET*
Dec. 14 @ Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m. ET*
Dec. 21 Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m. ET*
Dec. 28 @ San Francisco 49ers 4:15 p.m. ET*

Maybe our first big win of the year against the Boys at home. We may never win at Seattle again. A mature Giants team is still too much for us. We lose in Baltimore and Cinncy. Maybe we finish 2-0 to go 5-12.

I think Zorn may be a solid step in the right direction but this team has been blown up and is starting from scratch. Jason hasn't proved himself as of yet. Portis isn't going to be any fun behind the scenes for a new head coach. Nor will Moss. We're still lacking a big time WR. On D, who knows??? If Smoot and Springs get hurt, if Fletcher goes down, the D is adrift. There is no reason to expect it to be a strength anymore until proven otherwise.

Expectations are realistically, I think, low this coming year.

Shwoo...5-11. At least they'll make you happy if they hit 6-10 next year.:lmao:

Maybe its the young football homer maniac in me but I see us going 9-7.

I don't see that much of a drop-off from talent last year, which was a playoff year for us. In fact, if we're not done in with injuries like last year...in theory we should do better. However, I think we stand pat at 9-7 only because Zorn will have a few kinks in his rookie season.

We've been somewhat competitive the last few seasons in the East so that gives us a 3-3 split. Saints, Arizona, Rams, Detroit, and San Francisco can be had; there's at least a decent chance. 3-2 out of those games.

6-5 now.

Other than the divisional games, these will be the ultimate deciding factor.

It would be nice to see Zorn beat up on Seattle but I don't see it happening. 6-6

The Browns steal one with their now potent offense. 6-7

On any given Monday night the Skins somehow prevail in a close match-up against the Steelers. 7-7

Skins fandom invades the purple city and top the Ravens. 8-7

Cincinnatti's defense shows why they're not playoff contenders. 9-7

It will be an interesting year nonetheless.

...next year is not about record in my mind; it is about change to the correct direction.

When Snyder came on board there was no football reason to ditch Norv. The team was competitive. The team was playoff caliber and the team had an identity and players to follow.

When he hired Marty, same thing. There was no football reason to let him go. The team was competitive. The team was playoff caliber and the team was rebuilding an identity and players to follow.

The Spurrier years were truly adrift and simply cemented Snyder as lost.

Getting Gibbs fixed all that on the surface, but was a debacle underneath as Gibbs didn't want to come back, got bribed into coming and was allowed to try to do a whole different thing than the grind that NFL coaching demands; he tried to replicate his NASCAR team.

So, now, Snyder gets credit from me for putting Vinny in the GM seat and going with a young, new coach. I think the problem is that Vinny and Zorn are not equals, so, this is gonna be another Snyder disaster. Zorn doesn't even have all his own choices for coach. Next year will likely be either Zorn asserting himself and getting his own guys or just going along with the program, either way, this season is a waste.

Also, the NFL isn't so much about talent. It's a coach league. Indy had talent, but didn't go all the way until they had Dungy. New England adds and subtracts players an awful lot and goes through assistants at a high rate, but there is Belichick, every year. The Redskins would be a better team next year with Belichick as coach and New England would be a worse team without him. That's a long winded way of saying I don't have a clue what will happen.

I do think we are weak at WR. We are questionable at LB with an aging starter and team leader in the middle. We're suspect at corner. We have yet to replace an all pro safety. We still have problems, thank you otter, at D line. Campbell is a question mark.

And brand new bosses on both sides of the ball. 5 wins, tops.

A decent assessment but...

...does a new coach truly ensure a losing rookie season?

Is Sean Payton the exception to the rule?

It should be a glorious season for the Chargers.

Schedule, predictions appear

Rick Snider, The Examiner

The Redskins look 9-7 this fall for a wild card.

Sure, only an idiot projects a record five months from the season. There are lots of pesky things in between like the the draft, training camp, preseason and injuries much less how other teams handle the same challenges. Teams expected to be good may be bad and the same for bad teams playing well. No matter — the schedule released yesterday is the best time to dream because the Redskins played like nightmares too often in recent years.

The victories come over New Orleans, Arizona, St. Louis, Detroit, Dallas, Seattle, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. The Redskins lose to the New York Giants twice, Dallas, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and San Francisco.

Ironically, the preseason will be crucial. If new coach Jim Zorn proves his surprisingly hire was instead inspiring by looking together in exhibitions, the Redskins will gain confidence entering the regular season to start 2-2. If they look like bumbling fools (see Steve Spurrier, 2002) then a 1-3 start is possible and the whole season gets harder.

The NFL didn’t help Zorn by opening at defending Super Bowl champion New York, but the two easiest home games — New Orleans and Arizona — follow. The Redskins must win both because trips to Dallas and Philadelphia follow. A 2-3 start is miles better than 1-4. The latter means restarting the Bill Cowher watch.

The season ends with three of four away. Fortunately, it’s Baltimore, Cincinnati and San Francisco. The Redskins should win two to gain playoff momentum.

The downside for Redskins fans is the first four home games are New Orleans, Arizona, St. Louis and Cleveland. Yuck — not a sexy team in the bunch. No division rival reaches Landover until Dallas on Nov. 16 — a long wait for the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles.

The best stretch is consecutive night home games versus Pittsburgh (Nov. 3) and Dallas. Too bad there’s a bye in between. There are probably as many Steelers fans around Washington as Cowboys backers so look for lots of razzing around the office.

There’s no perfect time for the bye, but five preseason games should earn an earlier break. That’s 14 weeks straight.

Zorn returns to Seattle on Nov. 23 where he was the quarterbacks coach. Zorn isn’t alone wanting to beat the Seahawks. Washington has lost two straight playoff games in Seattle, including last season when many thought the Redskins could have reached the Super Bowl if surviving the Seahawks. Time to kick those birds to the curb.

Ultimately, the Redskins will either make the playoffs or freefall to a handful of wins.

Just 137 days until finding out.

No...

A decent assessment but...

...does a new coach truly ensure a losing rookie season?

...not at all, but NO had a very good, veteran QB coming in and he made everyone around him better. Brees alone made the case for them to go 8-8 before the season started. That was a magical season, Brees, Katrina, etc. It could happen here and I'd love to give my normal 16-0 and a Superbowl prediction, but I'm just not seeing it.

If you go back over the Redskins history, Gibbs I was a time when the ream found a way to make a play or two more per game than the other guys most of the time.

The Turner years were the exact opposite, we found ways to make one or two less plays too often and were still competitive.

Marty's one season ended with the team playing sound football and having an identity, a way of playing Marty ball which had long since proved itself effective.

The Spurrier years was back to, believe it or not, a few plays short a game to being playoff caliber again.

And that's why I was so excited about Gibbs return. Football is not this on/off switch, this good/bad deal. All teams have great players and all teams have mostly competent coaches. Coaches like Gibbs get that play or two out of the guys and then you win, then you make a few more plays then, all of a sudden the confidence is there, you start having teams 1/2 beat before the kick off and, suddenly, you have a great season or two.

Joe didn't bring the play or two, didn't bring the halftime adjustments because that's not what he was doing this time around. This time, Gibbs II, he was team president, not head coach.

So, yeah, maybe we have a magic season where Jason blossoms. Maybe we pick up some kid who has a Colston year. Maybe the vets on D and Rocky and Montgomery and Golston all come together and get it done. Maybe Portis explodes into what he was in Denver with a Denver type spread offense.

It's just tough to see right now.

How so?

I see the NFL continues it's policy of protecting New England with the easiest schedule in the league.

They play 6 games against their division and they play 4 more set games against a rotating division in both the NFC and AFC, that's 14 games that no one has a say in. And the last two games are against other conference teams that finished the regular season ranked same as they finished the prior year; in this case Indy and I think the Chargers. That's 16 no one has a say in.

It's not a secret. :lmao:

I'm not a Pat's fan by any means.. but, its not their fault that the division they are in completely blows except them  And that's almost half the season in just those games :ohwell:
