Nick's in Calvert

There is a rumor floating around that Nick's in Calvert is closing due to the landlord jacking the rent up. Now, I know they seem to do a good business there and the fact that they can sell alcohol helps boost sales.
Has anyone else heard this rumor? Or know if it is true?

It would make sense to me since Mamma Lucia's is closing for the same reason. I would think they were moving though, not closing.

Though I have never been there, I think they have a second location in Clinton. It would be a shame to lose them in PF. I wonder where they would move to as many of the landlords are playing the same game. My rent is very high and it gets harder each month to pay it when sales are sagging.

that's a shame they are running off family run businesses. what is up with PF? They are closing peebles, I heard another tj maxx/marshalls type is going there, then I heard they are putting a planet fitness and a bunch of little stores and expanding the place where kmart was.

I thought they always had good business. Although, every time I go to stoneys in that shopping center ts always empty.

Although they still call it Nick's of Clinton, it is now actually in Waldorf at Gateway Plaza. It's at Leonardtown Rd and St Charles Pkwy. Why is rent going up so high all over Calvert, did Calvert Cliffs get a tax break?

The two aren't connected.
What you have is landlords listening to people telling them that their property is worth more than it really is and that, if rents go higher, they, and the County, will get a better class of business.

Well let’s see here.... a certain county commissioner changed the rules in order to sell his personal commercial property. I guess when those lofty plans to sell to a petroleum conglomerate fell thru, he had a delimna. His corner lit didn’t sell and now it’s tax revenue is higher. (He must feel like cliff Barnes).
So maybeeeee he s hoping to sell his property to those disenfranchised by the landlords. Just my 2cents of supposition and speculation.

Nick was an interesting guy & great story teller. He died not that long ago. He was in his 90s when he passed.
