Nightmares...

My 3 year old has been having nightmares lately. It has been pretty consistant for the past few nights. Wakes up twice a night. Usually around 10 and then again around 3am. He just cries for me until I go into his room. I get him calmed down and he's back to sleep within 15 minutes.

Anyone have experience with this? How did you resolve it if possible? I feel awful for him and it is breaking my heart.

I don't think it is night terrors. He is not shaking or anything. I am wondering if it is him being upset because Daddy is offshore again. I hate that I do not know what is wrong with him. I ask what's wrong but he just lays there crying. I rub his head for a minute and pop in a video. He calms down.

My son had them, but didn't shake either, would wake up maybe an hour after falling asleep and cry and cry and cry...Maybe it is just that he misses daddy.

Good luck!

I read all of the other symptoms and they do not fit. I guess if it doesn't stop, I'll call his doctor.

I took my son to the ER one night because of it, and this is what they said it was. I hope it's nothing, keep me updated.

When it comes to SMH, they do not know shiat about diagnosing. One would think that only a specialist could diagnosis this.

I just figure that a doctor could not diagnose it unless they did a sleep study on him. I am probably wrong but it makes sense to me.

From the link, Usually, a complete history and a physical examination are sufficient to diagnose night terrors. So, I dunno either.

Has confinement issues..
Bebop sometimes cries when he has to go to the bathroom. He'll fuss and yell at himself and whine when I come get him. I stand him in front of the toilet, aim his whole body then slide him back in to bed..

I doubt he even knows what happened to him, becuase he never fully wakes up:lol:

He woke up every 2 hours last night. The last few times he walked to my room. After the 3rd time I noticed that his nightlight was out. I cannot believe that I have not noticed that.

My son is scared of the dark. I was too. :ohwell:

My son used to have night terrors and they usually don't wake up and the dr told me you should not wake them up. They are horrible, I used to sit by his bed every night and then he finally out grew it. With nightmares try putting a nightlight and or radio in the room. Don't know just a suggestion.

either a sleep specialist or a therapist type doctor could probably help figure it out. Good luck.

Em went through a phase where she had nightmares every night - the same one over and over. After a few months she stopped, and that was it.

:yeahthat: It's common and the best thing to do is nothing. When it happens, wait to see if they can settle themselves. If not, calm them but don't make a big deal out of it or you will have them waking up every night and it will become a habit.

N has NEVER been a good sleeper and at 5.5 it's gotten no better. It takes forever for him to fall asleep and he's up often in the middle of the night. It's a rare occasion that he sleeps all night. He goes through short lived phases though. He'll be good for a couple weeks and then for a couple of weeks he wakes up often but is able to put himself back to sleep and then a couple of weeks where he wakes up and can't or is scared to fall back asleep. As a working parent this kills me. I don't want him in my bed every night when he's going through the disruptive stage because it lends itself to forming a bad habit and I don't want him to get accustomed to sleeping in my bed nightly or waking and coming into my bed. I keep a couple blankets and a pillow beside my bed for him. If he wakes up in his own room and can't get back to sleep on his own he's allowed to come into my room, grab the stuff and sleep on the floor.
