ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that, according to official CDC data, 90% of Marylanders ages 65 and older have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This is another major milestone for the state’s No Arm Left Behind initiative to ensure vaccines are available for every Marylander who wants one.
“Getting seniors vaccinated has been, and continues to be, one of our highest priorities, and it is another area where we are outpacing the nation,” said Governor Hogan. “Maryland will continue to use every tool at our disposal to reach this population, and get everyone we can vaccinated. We especially encourage seniors to take advantage of our call center, which can provide direct assistance with booking an appointment and finding transportation.”
To get vaccinated—and be eligible for the state’s $2 million VaxCash Promotion—visit covidvax.maryland.gov, or call 1-855-MD-GOVAX (1-855-634-6829). The call center is available seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We are so pleased with the example our older adults have set in recognizing the importance and efficacy of our COVID-19 vaccines,” said Secretary Rona Kramer of the Maryland Department of Aging. “The 65+ age group has experienced, by far, the most dramatic decrease in hospital admissions than any other age group, after having started at the highest hospital admission rate. To date, Maryland has reported 6,612,371 vaccinations. According to CDC data:

- 72.9% of Marylanders 18 and older have received at least one dose, outpacing the national rate of 65.1%.
- 70.6% of Marylanders 12 and older have received at least one dose, outpacing the national rate of 62.1%.
- 60.3% of all Marylanders have received at least one dose, outpacing the national rate of 53.1%.
As part of the No Arm Left Behind campaign, the Maryland Departments of Health and Aging have engaged in a number of multi-agency initiatives to get more seniors vaccinated:
- Multiple rounds of outreach by phone to every unvaccinated senior in the state, as well as a mailer to that population.
- Partnerships with local health departments to reach homebound seniors, including using Meals on Wheels to provide vaccinations.
- Expansion of the state’s multilingual call center to provide direct assistance with technology barriers, including scheduling appointments online.
- Created a rideshare program to provide transportation to and from vaccine clinics.
- Data sharing with local jurisdictions and stakeholders to reach more seniors.
- Coordinated clinics at Senior Centers and Adult Day Care Centers in partnership with retail and independent pharmacy partners.
- Worked with Long Term Care Facilities to ensure vaccinations continued after the completion of the federal program.
- Exchanging best practices with local jurisdictions and other states to reach seniors.
