no front plate

I'm buying a girly car whose previous owner did away with the front plate mounting hardware and went front-plate-free. He reported never getting pulled over for it but that was out in the boonies of Hampstead MD out near Hanover PA where the police probably see plenty of no-front-plate cars (PA doesn't require or issue front plates).

Anyone know the fine for not having a front plate? I will have the temporary tag on the back till the metal plates arrive and will be searching for front plate mounting hardware, but I'd like to know what I'm risking if I can't find the appropriate parts and pieces in time.

i think its $25 or something like that. if you tell them you are getting mounting hardware they will usually give a warning. i think you can get the hardware at autozone or wal-mart

Should be no fine before you get your metal plates as Temp Tags are only displayed in the rear of the car anyway

I thought it was a $50 find and once you had it on you had to go to the police station and show them and they would sign off on it. Years ago my mom was pulled over and ticketed for it. Her car was never made to have a front tag.. it was a little mg midget

I know lots of people who have gotten the ticket for no front tag They now have front tags on their vehicles

Don't drive through Charles County. I've heard many stops on the scanner for no front plate and I've even heard more for temp plates. Guess the temp plates just draws the police to you for some reason.

Even putting your plate in the window, front or back, draws the police attention. I mentioned this to my landlord when his car didn't have any set up for a plate in front and he just drilled holes and screwed one on. You may get away without one but like Ken said, why take the chance??????

You would think that I had robbed a bank the way the policeman did a u-turn and caught up behind me.
Just got a warning !
Don't like the way front tags look......and I still don't !

but I run 'em now! even on the vettemobile ... 'cause it's the law!

I have done alot of ride alongs with cops, some will look for minor infractions like this or no tag light ect.... for an excuse to get you pulled over for a chance to get a bust for a bag of weed or DUI ect...

Holy Smokes! That's bad advice. I got a ticket at the Clements intersection for doing that when I bought the Explorer. Bad idea.

Like the guy said. There is no light for a front plate so just drill a coupld of holes and screw it on. My front plate cant be read anyway since bugs and stones have beat hell out of it. Used to get new tags in maryland every now and then. Now they just let you keep the old ones till they rust off.
