It is not reasonable to conclude that the illegals are the ones who stole the identities...it is more reasonable to conclude that someone else stole the IDs and they were sold to the illegals for their use. Who actually stole the IDs is a pertinent question and then there is this line from the article...

More galling, according to the Democrats who convened the hearing, is that none of the managers at the poultry processing businesses has been charged.

If there is no punishment for hiring illegals, the problem will continue.

After working for 10 years with Spanish in the irrigation industry, 97 out of 100 had fake ID's they knew they were fake, back then a SS card that was bubble jet printed on Avery business card stock an a green card, And they were sold to them by other Spanish that had been here for a few years.

Identity theft refers to the misuse of credentials, not the collection of them. If I steal your wallet, I am guilty of theft. If I use your ID from that wallet to open a bank account and take out a loan, I am guilty of Identity Theft. All of these people working and living under someone else's credentials committed identify theft.

It used to be on the federal paperwork a reminder to business owners that they are not LE... Checking authentication of paperwork was not their responsibility..

So let's go after the guy who buys stolen goods and let the burglar go free. After all that is what is pertinent here. Drug pushers get a pass, it's those evil dope users that are the real problem.

This is the paperwork loophole. I've worked with people that the employer and everyone else on site knew were illegal. But they have documents that pass e-verify. So the employers gets a pass. This loophole needs to be removed. Another work around is employers are now hiring through a temp agency. So the temp company is suppose to do the vetting of the employee. When things go sideways, the employer can say they weren't direct employees.

What needs to happen is anyone found employing illegals needs to be charged. Doesn't matter how good the documents are. Worse still is the place that employs dozens or hundreds of illegals. They need to sit in a cell for a while and consider there actions.

You are probably right on this. They didn't steal the identities, they purchased them. So what should be done is the ones with the illegal identities should be cataloged and deported, with the understanding that if they are caught again in this country they will be housed for life in one of our jails. We also need to go after those who stole the identities in the first place and jail them for life once caught. As for the punishment for those who hire them...if they knew they were hiring illegals then the business should be disbanded and the owners should face jail time. Make the penalties so severe that nobody wants to risk hiring illegals and no illegals want to risk coming here and the problem will be solved. Problem is that democrats don't want to do that. So much so that they refuse to cooperate with ICE and many of them want it disbanded. Hard to solve a problem when one political party simply wants to look the other way.
