The attached photos were taken at a competition in June 2006. The competition was between 10 women for best makeover.
They had every possible beauty treatment available to them over a period of 12 hours before the contest. Look at the before and after photos. It really is shocking!
Conclusion - there are no ugly women * (see below), only poor women.... If you had the money....Good Grief!!!
BTW, the woman 2nd from the left won the contest.
Actually, that was from the Television reality show called "The Swan". I think that it actually aired in 2003 or 2004. I remember watching this show in shock and horror.
I don't want to be superficial or anything, but some of them went into the show looking like true wilderbeasts. Some were still doable, and just needed some fine-tuning.
They didn't just use beauty treatments on these women - they all got Extreme Makeovers, the likes of which I have never seen before or since. They all got rinoplasty, liposuction, dental veneers, breast augmentation, butt-augmentation, tummy-tucks ... the works. After the surgury, they all look like they were pummeled, or run over by a street-cleaner. After they recovered from their surgeries, they all were put on 1000-1200 calory a day diets, and exercise regimens.
They also got therapy to work on their self-confidence and self-esteem, because each one of them, to the woman, had self-confidence and self-esteem issues. A lot of them had been teased since they were very young, and a few of them had (ex)husbands who ran around on them.
The twist was they couldn't look at themselves during the "remodeling". All mirrors and shiny surfaces were covered up or removed from their quarters, and no other food was allowed into their lives, except what the trainers and producers brought for them. Also their families couldn't see them, although they got to talk to them on the phone every day.
Then after all the work was done, they unveiled a body-length mirror and every single one of them freaked out when they saw themselves. They literally didn't recognize themselves.
At the end of the series, they had a beauty pagent from all the 'contestants' (I call them 'patients') who got some crazy prize, which I don't remember what it was.
If I remember correctly, the third from the right was the winner, not the second from the left.
