...I'm looking for one or two used machines. New would only be out because of cost though I saw a new Honda '06 Rincon 2wd (or rancher???) for $3,500

Everything I've read says you don't need 4wd most of the time, but, when you need it, you'll be glad you have it and I do intend to run in mud and snow.

I'm leaning towards utilities; push some snow, pull a spray rig, run fence lines. Maybe the second one could be a sport, just for riding.

I'd love thoughts and opinions on what to get. I'm a big guy, 6' 2" 240. The second machine would be for the wife and kids and guests.

Thanks!

Did you get Vrai's approval first?

...I did not. She loves me so much, she'll let me do anything I want. In fact, she'll probably offer to pay for 1/2 if not all of it.

I think the ute's are the way to go for the most part. They are alot heavier than the sport quads but if you get a bigger displacement, they are almost as fast these days. And they'll go just about anywhere. What you get depends totally on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. I've got a kawi brute force which is nice, but they are $$. I would probably recommend something 500cc and up. Any smaller and you'll be itching for more power. The rincons are actually supposed to be pretty capable machines, and you can't beat honda reliability. If you're trying to keep the $$ down that's not a bad choice. But yes, get the 4wd.

... push some snow, Thanks!

I think that answers the 4WD part..

They make all kind of neat utilities for ATV's, especially if you get one made for farming/ recreation. I don't know if any one still does, but years ago they came with PTO's for powering things like tillers, mower decks, snow blowers.. etc.. you can still get the same attachments, but they are powered by their own motors.

4WD is a must for snowplowing.

Be sure that the ATV comes with 2 inch hitch so you can do pretty much anything out in the field. I have use it to move my empty 5x8 utility trailer around. I have three different tongues for different functions.

Look at the specs for how much capacity you can tow or haul.
