BG and I have just returned from a VERY nice week in San Diego. I cashed in some vouchers (they expired on 11 Aug) for flights on Delta that I was either bounced from, or sat in the middle of the runway for several hours on.
*quick note: I was stuck on a runway in Atlanta for 5 hours awaiting storms in Baltimore before they would let us take off. NOT the fault of the airline at all, and understood it as a chance of travel, it's going to happen. Two weeks later I get a voucher for $100 and an apology for the unexpected layover, something totally out of the control of the airline. HUGE Kudo's to Delta for the effort.
ANYWAY, Delta now owns NorthWest, so they found me a single stop flight from BWI through Minneaplois/St Paul, and San Diego.. AND they got me a ticket for BG for First Class for less than Coach ($700 less). As the week went on and we were awaiting our trip, I kept getting updates.. First leg I was upgraded to 1st class.. next day.. next leg was upgraded (I'm a FREQUENT flyer and have logged over 50,000 miles in the last 12 months).
So we are EXCITED about our vacation and flying in style..
We board the plane for the first leg of the trip and notice.. no screens.. no drop downs, no monitors in the aisle, nothing. SO I figure, we'll just have to live with music for this trip.. that's OK, I guess.. I get out my noise canceling headphones (John Deere) and get the cable together to find NO jacks for music either. NOTHING, no entertainment of ANY kind the entire trip out there and back. I couldn't believe they didn't even offer MUSIC! Total of 16 hours of flying time out there and back, and not even elevator music to listen to.
Well, that will be the last time I travel on NorthWest.. I'll still travel on Delta, as I have NO complaints with their service, but I have to wonder what possessed them to buy NorthWest and associate their name with them.
Other than that we had a GREAT time in San Diego, stayed in a VERY nice hotel right on the water. I think I'm spoiling BG, but she deserves it, I mean she DOES put up with me EVERY day!!
