Well, the dogs went outside last night and I heard one of them cry...so we brought them in and one of the greyhounds had a spot of blood on his leg...he was limping and crying alot...so we watched him for a little bit. He started panting really heavily and seemed very uncomfortable and very much in pain. His leg started to swell and we called the vet. We pretty much figured he'd been bitten by a copperhead. We gave him Benadryl last night and this morning and took him to the vet this morning. His leg has swelled up to more than twice the normal size...it actually started bleeding...but there's no wound. The swelling is making blood ooze out of the pores. :frown: They gave him antibiotics and pain meds and we have to put a cold compress on it several times a day. He goes back in 2 days for a check up. The vet said there's a ton of soft tissue damage and the skin might end up sloughing off....and if it's too bad he'll need surgery. The poor boy is resting in his crate now. Hopefully his leg will be ok. The worst part is...he got bit in the nose by a copperhead (we actually found and killed the snake) about 2 years ago. Apparently he didn't learn his lesson!
