In the near future, our friends in the UK will very likely pay a penny extra for each package of chewing gum. Parliament is likely to approve a 1 penny sales tax for each package sold. The tax is being levied to pay for the millions of pounds currently spent on cleaning chewing gum off of streets and sidewalks. The Crown has paid Wrigley's 1 million pounds to develop a bio-degradable chewing gum, but that effort has failed so far.
