Dear Marylanders,
Following final CDC approval, state health officials have authorized providers to immediately begin scheduling appointments, holding clinics, and vaccinating 5- to 11-year-olds in Maryland. More than 300 providers of vaccines for 5- to 11-year-olds will be coming online, and the state will receive an initial allocation of more than 280,000 doses.
I know that many parents are relieved—they have been looking forward to this day for many months, and have already decided to move ahead immediately to protect their kids, to avoid unnecessary outbreaks and disruptive quarantines, and to keep them in school.
I also know that there are some parents who want to do what’s best for their children, but who still have concerns or questions that they need answers to. It is important that they get all of those questions answered, which is why we are strongly encouraging parents to talk directly with their pediatricians or family physicians.
Our primary goal is to make sure parents have the information they need to make the best informed decision, because this decision is up to—and should be left to—Maryland parents and families.

Sincerely,
