Now its our fault...

For those that don't think we have a terrorist threat, maybe they should read this.

The U.S. base was targeted because the United States "is the leader of Europe and the leading infidel in the world," said Sher Mohammed, a 40-year-old farmer who suffered a gunshot wound while taking part in the demonstration in the city of Qalat. "They are all the enemy of Islam. They are occupiers in our country and must be driven out," Mohammed said.

And this is the thinking of a simple farmer.

Sounds like it's time for another :bs: flag. Have any of you spent much time in this area of the Third World, or the Third World in general? Seen farmers out in that neck of the woods? Farmers in this area farm, they don't have any time to go out raising hell at the local civil unrest extravaganza. Also, these folks tend to be the least educated and cultured of a people because they are born into farming and generally stay there their whole life. Frankly the words reported are just not the words of a farmer. This guy being some "simple farmer" is about as likely as those anti-Bush protests in CA are just unscripted, grass-roots, voice-of-the-people affairs.

:yeahthat: The "common man" in these areas could care less about what is going on in the world as long as it isn't falling upon him. This "simple farmer" probably has an advanced degree from some upscale liberal US college.

I was wondering about that. I know that in the US, the least likely people to get involved in some uprising would be a rural-dweller. Didn't know if maybe it's different over there and their farmers are a little more militant.

The "common farmer" over there may be a bit POed at the U.S. since the big cash crop in Afghanistan before the war was opium poppies. Just a thought.

Their farmers are real farmers. There aren't many corporate farms or subsidies or any other external concerns beyond the seasons. These folks get up, work, go home... they don't spend hours analyzing the world's geopolitical situations, and then go out to at least two non-productive (from a farmer's standpoint) events.
