NRA Endorsements -- Where's the Logic?

I received an orange card in the mail yesterday announcing that the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has endorsed Sue Kullen for delegate in District 27B. She received an "A" rating and David Hale received a "B" rating. Wherever you stand on your support of gun owners rights, endorsing the higher rated candidate makes sense.

My NRA-PVF rating in the District 27 state Senate race is also an "A" while my opponent, Mike Miller, received a "B." Yet they did not issue an endorsement of my campaign, AND they've contributed $7,000 to Mike Miller's various campaign committees since 1999, the last contributions coming in November 2005. I don't understand their logic - do you?

What have you done for them lately? Then, look at what he has done for them.

They see you as the underdog and "expect" Mike to win. That being said, they don't want to burn any bridges. Kullen/Hale they see as a closer race and therefore want to support both openly.

I'm sure you know all this already. You still have my vote.

I noticed this last week too when the American Rifleman Mag. came out with MD election recomendiations. I question alot of the stuff the NRA does but they are pretty much the only game in town when it comes to supporting gun rights on a national level. They have really never done much for Maryland.

Thanks - I appreciate that. For a first-time candidate such as myself, it's a sobering lesson in political calculus.

You indicated that they wanted to support both Kullen and Hale openly. They didn't support Hale, however -- he didn't get their endorsement, nor did he get any money from them. I imagine he's not happy with the little orange card, either!

The logic... Back the incumbent.

I have not decided on the Kullen/Hale race. I may have to leave those picks alone next Tuesday.
