Have a lot of Facebook friends? You are probably up yourself | News.com.au

CONFIRMING the suspicions of many social media sceptics, researchers have established a direct link between the number of friends a person has on Facebook and the degree to which they are a narcissist.

A study published in the journal, Personality and Individual Differences, found people who scored highly on the Narcissistic Personality Inventory questionnaire had more friends on Facebook, tagged themselves more often and updated their newsfeeds more regularly.

Timely article, especially after someone's Facebook meltdown yesterday. :lmao:

I do not get the FB meltdown. Why would someone announce to everyone they know and whatever perfect strangers they've friended that they are mentally unstable? People should keep that chit to themselves.

 We have a friend, highly educated, known him for a very long time who makes that announcement 1 time per week. I seriously think there is a link between having a high IQ and an inability to handle your emotions.

So perhaps he/she is one of those people??? You know - real smart people but socially held back.

I have a couple of those types on my friends list. It's entertaining yet I always feel like finding a shrink in their area and giving them the phone number so they can get the meds they clearly need. It's funny yet truly pathetic.

I never gave it any thought, although I've been accused of "friend collecting" because I do have a high number of Facebook Friends - not really the case, there are exceptions.

A lot of people, I really do know IRL or coworkers, future, past and present, and then others are friends of friends that ask me and I accept their requests, and the largest percentage is people in a support group that I belong to for a brain disorder and we support each other with daily issues, brain surgeries and related complications of the disorder.

They were all very helpful and supportive to have a few years ago after I personally had brain surgery. A scant few folks I accept their reqeust simply because they seem decent or we do have similar friends. I started doing checks on Maryland's judiciary website first though. :yay:
