Gee that’s terrible. But working for the State one is subject to their rules. Perhaps your niece can try the private sector where at-will employment means she can be fired at any time for any reason—or no reason at all.

She probably went to work for uncle sugar because she figured it would be a cushy career option at taxpayer expense.

Isn't that the same argument people are using to goad people into getting vaccinated? Why yes, yes it is. Get vaxxed because hospitals are overloaded dealing with covid patients and they won't be able to deal with whatever else.

Means nothing. I'm healthy.

Sorry dude, those are the harsh facts of working for a State entity. Don't like the rules, go seek employment someplace else. Those are also the rules of at-will/voluntary employment arrangements. Sorry this is lost on you.

And when you are flown in to the shock trauma unit at UM hospital in Baltimore...ranked one of the best in the entire country....then what?

There are plenty of people who understand the terms of working there and will have no problem playing by the State's rules. The "shortage" in the nursing industry has always been played up for maximum impact.

How many nurses/caregivers/etc. are expected to lost their jobs at shock trauma in B'more?

I'm sure you're not meaning to, but this is PRECISELY the same argument which has been used to urge the public to get the jab. Don't want a bed shortage because of covid patients.

It is way past being the dumbest thing I ever heard of to fire Nurses who worked through the Pandemic because they will not get the vaccine. If they didn't get the Covid by now they probably have herd immunity. If they were brave enough to work when there wasn't a shot their courage should not be rewarded by firing them.

St. Mary's Hospital needs these people. They need more rooms, and they need a larger ER..
It isn't unusual for people who will be admitted to lay in the ER taking up space for hours before they can be moved upstairs. It isn't unusual for it to take an Ambulance up to a half hour to get a patient off their cot so they can go back in service. It isn't unusual for people to be taken off the ambulance and placed in the waiting room because no beds are available in the ER. St. Mary's needs these nurses, and they need more space, It's BS to fire them because they won't take a shot.

See that's just it - we really don't wan't or need trained personnel anymore according to Hogan. Do what you can to get the new students graduated as soon as possible, which translates to "not fully trained". Same thing is happening with bus drivers - fast track new hires because we need them desperately, which means "not fully trained". It's only going to get worse from here until someone comes to their senses and says wait a minute, is the vaccine mandate necessary when we are going to lose all of our experienced workers?!
