Nutrient Management Regulations
in affect for January 1st, 2014.

Hello Horse Enthusiasts,

Please be advised that the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) revised Nutrient Management Regulations may affect your equine facility/operation.

One of the key elements that I would like to bring to the equestrian community’s attention is that by January 1st 2014 all livestock, including horses, are to be fenced (or other means of restricted access) out of streams and certain other water bodies by a 10 foot setback. Equine owners that do not restrict livestock access to waterways will be in violation.

Help with determining your Best Management Practice (BMP) for your farm to become compliant with the new regulations can be obtained by contacting your local Soil Conservation District office. Cost Share Assistance Programs may be available to assist in the financial aspect of installing BMPs for livestock exclusion.

Contact your local Soil Conservation District
for information on Best Management Practices and Cost Share Assistance Programs.
