Anybody have one? Otherwise I am off to the autoparts store to get the codes cleared.
'01 Chevy. What vehicle? I have one, but i think it's specific to older ford and mercury.
It's going to keep doing that till the computer "forgets" the position of the valve. Even with a brand new valve, unless it just happens to hit exactly the same measurement, the code will keep coming back unless the steps I posted above are followed. The Auto parts store cleared the code for me, but it came back on again about 30 miles later.
'01 Chevy.
Have a P1404 code.
Yes please. Can I stop by over the weekend to pick it up?I have one at the house as well if you need to borrow it... just let me know.
I'm not at work, where I can access the online computer troublecodes, but from past experience, the EGR valve might need cleaning(from carbon buildup), or it might need to be replaced. We (Autozone) read your "check engine light codes" for free.'01 Chevy.
Have a P1404 code. Has to do with the egr valve. From reading on the net, it is a bogus code. As the valve wears over time, it stops reading as closed, even when it is. If you disconnect it from the wiring harness, scan the codes and turn off the vehicle immediately upon the "codes cleared" message, then reattach the wiring harness and start vehicle, it forces the computer to "re-learn" the position of the valve which stops the code from coming back.

I have 2 scanners, one is specific for ford/Lincoln/mercury 1981 and newer. The 2nd scanner looks to be universal ODBII. Looking for a manual for it.....
Update:I have one at the house as well if you need to borrow it... just let me know.
I think the van likes you more than me. The code was still on last time I drove it and that was after you reset it.Update:
Scanner was utilized. Code is cleared. Last time this lasted about 30(?) miles before coming back. Followed directions found online to force the computer to re-learn the EGR valve setting. Should know by the weekend if it worked. By the end of next weekend for sure.
Need scanner back before that?

If it was off when you drove it last night, either the van is conspiring against me and the light went off just for you or you are blind as a bat and the light was on the whole time.
I want a new van....emphasis on "new" This one is junk....um, I mean a fine piece of pre-owned equipment that I would reluctantly let go of for the right price....It's a conspiracy, he wants a new van.
Or you are imagining things and it really IS off.I think the van likes you more than me. The code was still on last time I drove it and that was after you reset it.
