Obtaining a temporary alcohol permit?

To serve alcohol at an event at the Holiday Inn Express in La Plata we have to obtain a temporary permit for the evening. They gave us some information at the hotel but I was trying to find out more information or if anyone has any experience having to obtain one. Thanks!

Either make a deal with the hotel to serve drinks or make it BYOB and sell mixers and ice.

BYOB might not work with a corporation like Holiday Inn. Is it for a fundraiser? You have to contact the Alcohol Beverage Board for the county most likely, unless you can find someone who has a license like a caterer or member of a civic organization, like Lions Club, Optimist Club, etc., if they would be part of your fundraiser. But if you have to go through the Alcohol Board you will have to act quick because they will have to put it on their hearing schedule and vote on approval. They usually only meet once a month.

It is a fundraiser and the holiday inn advised we have to get the permit and provide a certified bartender as well. She said no one has ever had trouble getting one for a wedding or such so thought maybe someone had been through the process.

Meaning to sound a bit snarky here; one might think that if the Holiday Inn is in the business of providing a venue, where folks want to serve alcohol, they should provide more complete information (at least) about the process, if not professional expertise in guiding you along. Seems like a simple bit of providing complete customer service on their part.

I would start with contacting this organization, they should be able to tell you waht you need.

The Holiday Inn is not in the business of providing legal advice for alcohol consuming events. They gave the beat advice by telling the person to contact the liquor board to get a temp license and they would need to use a certified bar tender.

And by 'certified bartender' it means someone who has a TAM (Techniques of Alcohol Management) certification. It could be liquor store clerk or business owner who has a certification, etc. You will probably have to have this info for the liquor board as well. Probably best to find someone who already has one, or you can find the class to take here:

I'll accept my ignorance on this, and will not hijack the thread further.
