Strung Out
...long weekend sometime within the next month.

We like bars, strolling the boardwalk, walk on the beach, restaurants and shopping, all in walking distance.

Been a LONG time since either of us has been to the beach. Tips, opinions?

Other suggestions within 4 hours drive or so?

...did you note vote or is there a problem with recording votes? The mind wonders...

I didn't vote. Let me do that now.

I like Rehobeth because it is smaller, quieter and just a nicer place. Dewey has great bars and is very close.

I like Ocean City but it is very crowded and very expensive.

So what's the story with Rehoboth? Is there a boardwalk or tourist area with bars, restaurants and shopping? With a hotel right in the thick of it so we can park our car and not see it again until we're ready to go home?

Yes...has all of that with a smaller boardwalk. You can also ride a "trolley" to Ruddertown (and various stops along the way) to go do different bars, restaurants.

Rehobeth is the Gay Vacation Capital of the Mid-Atlantic... :yay:

That doesn't bother me at all. I just like the hustle-bustle of Ocean City.

I voted for Rehoboth, but honestly, Bethany is just as nice, I just know Rehoboth better. If you didn't KNOW Rehobeth was a gay mecca, you'd probably not know. They mostly keep to themselves at the far south end of the beach, but if you pay attention, you will see rainbows and various other gay icons around town.

I would recommend the Atlantic Sands Hotel. It's right on the boardwalk, steps from "main street" It's nice, has some great ocean views, and is in the middle of it all. http://www.atlanticsandshotel.com/

The good shopping is of course at the outlet malls on the main highway as you come into town. They honestly have the best outlet mall I've ever shopped at, but then again, I'm not a huge outlet mall shopper!

Have fun! Should be a nice time of year to be there... still nice weather, but not the hoards of beach-goers.

Restaurants...

This place does not post a menu. They are very expensive. I assure you, it will be the best steak you've ever eaten.

 My family had a beach house in Rehoboth for awhile. Rehoboth is very quiet compared to Ocean City. My husband prefers that, along with antique shopping at the many antique stores in that area, and I like action, busy, people, tons of little shops, but the one thing I don’t like is all the noise at Ocean City at night. To me, there is nothing worse than getting woke up at 3-4 in the morning with yelling, cheering, screaming, and tires squealing.

I was oblivious to all the gay stuff at Rehoboth and had to have it pointed out to me by my grandmother no less. I just don’t notice stuff like that. The last time I was there, I was visiting Nanny Pam and was surprised the area had grown so much, with tons and tons of stores, and the best part, no sales tax in Delaware.

Went to all three last weekend.

I vote Ocean City for the eye candy and hustle and bustle. Go to Rehoboth for more "atmosphere" and layed back attitude.
