October 7 Hunter Pace at Chaptico Wharf Farm

The De La Brooke Foxhounds hunt club’s fall Hunter Pace is October 7 at Chaptico Wharf Farm. Registration opens at 9 am with riders out from 10 am to 12 noon. The 8 mile course winds through the historic countryside and features 20 optional jumps.

The optimum time for the ride is a mix of walk, trot and canter with brief rests. The hunter pace time will be set by De La Brooke Foxhounds huntsman, Casey Copsey, and a visiting huntsman. Competitors can either jump the course or ride on the flat. Participants compete in a team of two to four riders.

Refreshments will be for sale and the entry fee is $40 per adult and $20 per junior. Awards are saddle pads and Southern States horse feed. There will be winners first through third place for the optimum time along with prizes to the best team name, best turned out, best horse of the day, best behaved junior, and worst behaved adult. Entries must provide a negative Coggins test document. Horses must be in English tack, and riders must wear helmets and appropriate English riding clothes (breeches or other pants, polo or hunt shirt, boots.)

The event is held rain or shine at 36190 Old Chaptico Wharf Road, Chaptico, Maryland. The prize list is available at the website, :howdy:Home_page along with a waiver that must be signed by all riders and/or their guardian as appropriate.
