Oxon Hill, Md. (AP) - An off-duty District of Columbia police officer was shot to death early Wednesday after authorities said a 16-year-old tried to rob him. The two traded shots and the suspect was also killed. Sgt. Clifton Rife II, 34, was killed about 4:30 a.m., outside an apartment building in Oxon Hill, Md., which borders D.C. The 13 year veteran of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (website - news) leaves behind a wife and two children, MPD officials said.
