Off road riding, where?

Are there any public trails to ride MX/ATV's locally?
Some years ago I used to ride the power lines and down by trap road. Are those places still kinda open to ride? Where else can I ride?

Not too many "Legal" places. The power lines are still good if you can find a place to get to them. There is a pay as you ride track and trail facility just north of Budds Creek. http://www.atvwannaride.com/ Never been there myself but could be fun.

last i heard the police were cracking down on people riding by the power lines.

i would either get into the good ole boy network or just pay to ride at that place just north of budd's creek.

Yep, they have 4 wheelers and everything and they patrol the power lines on occasion.

Like there isnt anything better to do than kick people off powerline roads. Maybe crack down on violent crime or drugs?

Move west young rider. 1/2 to 3/4 of the land in most western states is public owned lands. Miles and miles of dirt roads that are open to riders of all types.

Gesh, I guess I can forget about getting a bike to just trail ride with. The place near Budds Creek looks great, but a little expensive.

I was kinda just looking for a place that was close by and free for riding.
About eight years ago when I wasn't at Budds Creek riding the motocross track, I used to ride the local power lines roads (Pegg RD and Trapp RD), at an area near white plains, and at an area off of 301 outside of Waldorf. I guess all of those places have been closed off.

Power lines have always been illegal. Its private property owned by electric company's etc. You just gotta take that chance of someone making a complaint or a police officer catching you and "wanting" to do something about it.

The place in Budds creek is expensive, he's always trying to make a buck. He'd sell dirty underwear if he could.

Thought the power company just has easement rights, property is still privatly owned.

It's been a few years and I'm not sure they are still doing it, but check into SMDR (Southern Maryland Dirt Riders). It's a club I joined and they had a ride about every weekend and had a deal worked out with Jon Beasley out at Budd's to flag every year for the Nationals. In exchange, he would let us ride he track there a few times a year. Plus, we got in free for the Nationals. Good times

Other than that, I used to ride the power lines all the time, never had any troubles. And.... not sure if it's still there but me and some friends cut a pretty good trail out in the woods just North of the School that's on the East side of the road south of the base.

And.... if you go West on Pegg Rd just past Springwood Ct (where I used to live), and on the right, you can go in there and there are more trails. It looks like the power lines, but there are trails that in the adjacent woods. I used to leave right outta my garage and ride. And they go all over. You can go down behind Blair video almost to Wal-Mart, or the other way down behind the food place that was a new a couple years ago (forgot what it was) across from gate 1. :banghead:
