Good afternoon, Chairman Simpson, Ranking Member Pingree and Members of the Subcommittee. My name is Daron Carreiro, I am currently serving as the Acting Director of DOJ’s Office of Tribal Justice. Thank you for inviting me here to speak with you today about the Department of Justice’s ongoing work to tackle the missing or murdered Indigenous people crisis and other pressing public safety challenges that continue to disproportionately impact American Indian and Alaska Native communities. It’s an honor to see Chairman Cole here as well.
