BEND, Ore. -- A seventh-grader from Bend, Ore., had a very close encounter with a deer during a race at Cascade Middle School.
The boy's name is Kevin Cox.
The pictures were taken by Dennis Oliphant, who runs a local tour company in Oregon. Oliphant shared them with NBC.

At one point, the deer actually mounts the student.

In the end, teachers came to the rescue and separated the two. Cox was reportedly not hurt.

They must have a thing about human hair! The one I posted said they figure the deer was attracted to the salt on the boys head.
