Got a '97 Z71 with 265/75 R 16 tires on the stock rims......

Have a friend with a 2000 Z71 with 16 inch stock rims, but he has 285/75 R 16 tires on his., said it was the biggest tire the rim would allow and has had no problems with rubbing or scraping.

Will the larger size tire fit mine..??

97 old :shrug: I have a 55 Chevy and a 66 GMC now thats getting old :buddies:

Hard to say... I switched from a Bridgestone H/T to an A/T and now I get a very slight rub in a hard corner on the outside of the wheel well. Same size tire. Wheel-well clearance would be a big factor.

2000 GMC Sierra.

GWguy, I've got a set of A/T's on now that need to be replaced.....never had a problem, got Rancho shocks that gave it a 1/2 inch lift from stock, my friend's ride is all stock and said he never had any problems........with the bigger tire.

Except the speed calibration.:lol:

why not go wider (to his size) but not taller?

Can you get some 285/65/R16?

I mean, I really don't see how the width should play too much into hitting the wheel well...its only another 20mm right? :shrug:




EDIT: just a quick peek on tirerack and I don't see much selection for 285/65/16 but like I said, I don't think that extra 20mm width is going to influence the height enough to hit the wheel well if you have no issues now.

I don't see a problem either, his came stock with the same size mine did/does, think I'll give it a try.......:buddies:

Keep in mind though the clearance with the tires hitting something of importance, for instance, with the brakes.

Just a thought...but I'd say that from what you've given me, you'll be fine :yay: Good luck.

Correction: I had A/Ts, now have H/Ts. I wanted more of a car tread for highway driving.

Would THIS face lie?
I had 285's on my 98 2500HD and had no problems....
I compared the two sizes and the sidewall of the 65 is 7.8" and the sidewall of the 85 is 8.4"....The radius of the 65 is 15.8" and the radius of the 85 is 16.4"....The diameter of the 65 is 31.6" and the diameter of the 85 is 32.8".. The circumference of the 65 is 99.4" and the circumference of the 85 is 103.1". The revs per mile on the 65 is 637 and the revs per mile on the 85 is 614.0...Speedometer reading will be off 3.7% slow. When you read 60MPH you will actually be going 62.2 MPH....

That's what I have on my 2002. Try it and see.
