No people settle down. GW wants to get rid of allot of government jobs and make them contractors. This means my child support will go threw the roof. My ex is a gov. worker. And her job is on the block.

Why don't you tell us why you think Democrat is the way to go for you?

You realize that this (down sizing) was started when Al Gore was "re-inventing the Government" right? So you would be switching to the other party because your party is continuing a practice that the other party started.

Its true. Bush is planning to turn a lot of government jobs into contract jobs. These jobs wont provide any health insurance or any other benefits. My Agency is going through the same thing right. They just stopped offering health benefits to our temp department.

Many companies offer no benefits to temps or part-time employees. But with Federal Contracts don't they have to comply with the level of benefits as determined by the Area Wage Determination? I think they do.

I don't think that is the reason.
What he said.

Dems gets a hard time because she's a knee-jerk who doesn't seem to know what's she's really voting for. Ken King was a Democrat until just a few days ago and he never caught flak for it, other than mild teasing.

FD, if your ex is a govt. worker, she'll have no problem transferring over to the private sector. Plus that, the money is better.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with being a republican, my parents are economically conservative, but socially liberal. :peace:

I remember the day not so long ago when people would have thought it extremly odd for temps to get any benefits from their companies.

No they don't. We have a contracting agency and they don't provide any of these benefits except holidays.
For positions listed on the AWD for Washington, DC metro are (including St. Mary's County) the benefits are as follows:

ALL OCCUPATIONS LISTED ABOVE RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS: HEALTH & WELFARE: $2.15 an hour or $86.00 a week or $372.67 a month

VACATION: 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service with a contractor or successor; 3 weeks after 5 years, and 4 weeks after 15 years. Length of service includes the whole span of continuous service with the present contractor or successor, wherever employed, and with the predecessor contractors in the performance of similar work at the same Federal facility. (Reg. 29 CFR 4.173)

HOLIDAYS: A minimum of ten paid holidays per year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. (A contractor may substitute for any of the named holidays another day off with pay in accordance with a plan communicated to the employees involved.) (See 29 CFR 4.174)

I guess you would think that. It's sad to see Americans who work hard and they have no health insurance to support them or their families. It's a shame.

And you wonder why your health costs or going up? It's because people without insurance go to the Hospital and then they don't pay their bills, then the Hospital passes the expense back on to you and your insurance provider.
