Okada!!

We go to Asahi, not regularly, but fairly often, and really have no complaints. It's good, Teppenyaki is VERY good, service has always been good, and the Sushi I always thought was very good..

Until Thursday, when we went to Okada again.. (it had been awhile).

As good as I thought the Sushi was at Asahi, the Sushi at Okada was UNBELIEVABLY good. So good in fact that we went back today for just Sushi.

I don't know what Okada does differently, but whatever it is I hope they keep it up. Their Salmon, Tuna, and White Tuna were melt in your mouth good.. DELICIOUS!! Their California rolls? Have never had better. Their portion sizes, their Sashimi portions can only be described as SLABS of fish.. and their Sushi portions were big, but not near as big as the Sashimi..

I do have to give the advantage to ASAHI for the Teppenyaki, I just like their's better, though both are good..

But hands down, the choice for Sushi/ Sashimi, for me, HAS to be Okada.

I agree about the sushi/sashimi. A buddy and I try Asahi every once in a while because it is closer to work, but usually go to Okada. I call ahead and get it to go on my way home occasionally. The tepanyaki is also awesome at Okada - personally think the chefs are more showy and personable at Okada. The fried rice at Asahi, however, is awesome!

I have never ever had sushi or however you spell it. I'm not sure I can eat it. I will check and see if I can. I know I am not supposed to have fruit like apples, grapes, etc, though I do eat them. It has something to do with the liklihood of infection. I'll check on Tuesday. Which is the LEAST fishy, Bob? Are there sauces that go with it? Is it fattening at all? I wish I could get to like a really non-fattening foood.

You nailed it I think..

I do believe you are right about the rice.. That would be the major difference between the two.

And agree about the Chef's too.

California Rolls there is nothing raw.. They are Tasty. Avacado (sp?) Imitation Crab, Rice, and what else?? TINY tiny fish eggs.. REALLY good.

The Tuna was mine and BG's favorite. No fishy taste, and the texture is EXCELLENT, but the White Tuna is even better.

If Sushi tastes fishy it's old.. and not good.

My favorites. Tuna, Fatty Tuna, White Tuna, Salmon, Red Clam, Octopus, Calmari (tough to chew).

If you'd like to go out one night and try it let us know, we'd love to accompany a novice (or a couple of novices I assume??) and show you how we eat it. Not sure if what we do is right, but it sure is good!

A little Soy sauce with some Wasabi to dip it in.. and YUMMM.. if your eyes don't water you need MORE WASABI!!

California rolls have no fish, they are rice, avocado, and a wrapper with a few other ingredients.

I would love to do that. Problem is that I am in jammies by 6:30 - too tired to do much. But around 4:30 or 5 I could do. Can you guys do that? If hubby doesn't come, I'll do it by my own self. He gets involved with crap when he gets home (story of my life).

I LOVE avacado. We had some friends in San Diego that had avacado trees. We lived in AZ and had a pink grapefruit tree, so we would trade bags of the fruits. They had the fattest dogs ever. Their dogs would eat every avocado that fell from the trees, apparently. Funny. We use to squeeze gallons of pink grapefruit juice. I loved it with a little sweet and low (and vodka, sometimes), but talk about heartburn.

As far as Ive always know California rolls do indeed have imitation crab (which fun fact is actually Pollock fish. I got into a disagreement once with a server who insisted imitation crab meat is vegetarian since "its isnt real crab!!" Eeek.)

Anywho! If you are every in Leonardtown and want some good sushi, I really like Oga's. The man that runs it is always really nice too.

nope tried it once..

Their Sushi that day, if not rotten, was VERY close to it.

You ever put food in your mouth and think.. "Crap, I'm sitting at a table in a restaurant and I REALLY shouldn't throw up!"? yeah, that's what it was like.. trying to force it down before I threw it up.

OGAwd I'm going to throw up!!

Never expereienced any thing like that in ANY restaurant before.

You really need to find out when a sushi bars "fresh day" is..... A lot of sushi places get fresh fish once a week and by the end of that week there is a definite difference in the taste and texture! You should ask your sushi chef for Hamachi Kama, it's the jawbone of the Yellowtail....Usually not on the menu, but they have it and it's good stuff! :yay:

Was trying to talk BG into fried shrimp heads.. but it was a no go today.

And besides, it doesn't matter when they get MOST of their sushi, because it has to be aged anyways, or so I think..

You can't catch a tuna, slice it up and serve it as Sushi the same day it would be tough and stringy.

Yeah, you're right...... The fish is never straight out of the water, I just meant fresh as in as fresh as it can be delivered. They actually had a pretty good show on the Discovery or History Channel showing how fish for sushi is caught and prepared from the water to your plate. Learned a lot that I didn't know.
