Old wives tale?

My husband has terrible allergies this time of year and yesterday a woman he works with told him that a teaspoon of local honey (has to be local) a day will help. She said the reason is because it has pretty much everything in it that causes allergies. Guess it's kind of like getting a daily allergy shot. I've never heard of it, but we have people all over down here that sell local honey by the gallon jugs, might be time to pick some up. I think I read somewhere that honey is one of the foods that does not have an expiration date.

Anyone ever heard of this?

That's one of those things you think sounds about right - for the reasons you stated.

But, according to WebMd, the answer is no...

But it is an excellent antibiotic and using it in tea or on toast can have some very positive effects..maybe even help preventing that awful sinus infection that pretty much always accompanies my allergies

I've heard about the local honey thing many times and not just around here...an old boyfriend's father used to practice this. He has a teaspoon of local (CT) honey every day after dinner. The man was in his 80s and looked like Paul Bunyan. He was never sick and only just recently retired after working his whole life in the trades. He was enough proof for me. :yay:

But Beachcat, that's a good question...I know Amish sell some but anyone have any particularly good sources/markets they use for local honey? Calvert or St. Mary's?

ok, thanks, I was thinking about stopping by there to see. bought it from Farmers Market in charlotte hall before, but that's not that convenient off season. only during peach season lol

You're welcome. I usually stock up from the farmer's markets as well. I may a trip over there this weekend. I've never been there, but my Mom has good things to say about it.

Not sure if there's any truth to it or not but YUM!!! I have friends that harvest honey from their own bees. Mannnn is it good!

Next time I pass the people selling local honey near my house, I'm getting some. I laugh when I see them because their car looks just like Bumble Bee from Transformers and my daughter made a joke about it the last time we rode past them.
