On being shot down...

For being too smart?

My daughter and I were both excited to learn that there was an 11 month school program this summer. My day care provider recommended it as something my kiddo might enjoy to avoid the summer, "I'm BORED!!"
I set out to make the phone calls to the whoevers and was basically told R. was too advanced for the program and that there was nothing for kids like her who are 1 grade level or more above reading level.

Well ain't that a kick in the pants.:ohwell: Now my kiddo is mad that she will be foreced to sit at daycare all summer with the babies and have nothing to do.

I really wanted her to have en educational activity this summer, something that would keep her skills sharp for next year and possibly help her move even farther ahead.

Do any other parents here feel that a "challenge camp" would be a good idea?
It was suggested that I write a letter to Dr. M. at the BOE to put a bug in his ear.

You may also want to drop a line to parks and recs, and while you're at it see if they have any openings. Gurl did one summer at Elms Beach, don't remember the name of the summer camp, though. She also did a summer at the base summer camp, but I'm sure they're full up by now.

R. lasted one hours at the Elms Beach summer camp thingy a few years ago..

Rather, I should say I lasted one hour.. I dropped her off at an open beach, the only shelter was a pavilion and a port-a-potty?? :baw:I tried to leave her there, but
I was so upset when I got home that I called rec and parks for my money back and fetched her home. :bawl:I was the one who couldn't deal with her being out there in the elements without mommy:doh:

There was no way to afford the camp she went to last summer...It was in PA, brand new cabins with AC and two bathrooms.. I was more comfortable with that. Those places cost about 800 bucks though. :ohwell:

I ran that camp at elms one year, it was actually not too bad and the pavillion was plenty of shelter. The year before i ran one at piney point and they had nothing but a big tent.

The only thing i didn't like about elms was the lack of running water. Kids are dirty anyway, but imagine 60 or so that can't wash their hands after the port-o

I know, I have gotten a bunch if crap about being such a :baby: , but at the time she WAS my baby. She's a bit older now, but I still would prefer her to be someplace less exposed..Ya know?

My thing this year was to try and put her somewhere that would be more educational, I'm home this summer for the very first time, so I can take her to the beach adn the parks myself.

thats cool, and my boy wouldn't have gone if i wasn't working there, i mean most of the staff was in the 20-22 range. Not that i didn't trust them, they just didn't have the experience i thought they should considering they were taking care of 60-80 kids a day.
