I had a new roof installed in 2007, over $11K, 50 year shingles warranty etc. During Hurricane Irene, i sustained over $14K in water damages to the interior of my home. I contacted the roofer (roofing by George) and was told i was covered under warranty, go ahead and tarp the are until they could get by to take a look. A few days later they show up, and within 1 minute of being on the roof they tell me i have voided the warranty because i nailed the tarp to the roof. Are you kidding me? Was i suppose to hope the tarp just levitated by itself on the roof. Then they tell me i need two squares of shingles that i nailed through, along with two new pieces of plywood and new flashing. Its amazing how they new what had to be replaced without removing the tarp to inspect the area. Had the roof not leaked in the first place, there would not be a tarp on the roof to begin with. All the paperwork i received with the roof states any leaks within twelve years are covered period.
I have since filed a claim with GAF (warranty company) and am told i am covered. I should have another "master elite roofer" out to my home for repairs in the near future.
Be Aware!
