In the spirit of celebrating the fun and beauty of Maryland during this holiday season, Governor Martin O’Malley today launched the 2009 Online Holiday Photo Contest, inciting the people of Maryland to submit holiday-themed photos now through January 3. “It’s my sincere hope that the people of Maryland find time this month to spend with family and friends to reflect on the many blessings we share together, and to give of ourselves in some way this holiday season,” said Governor O’Malley. “The photo contest is a fun and engaging way to show our appreciation for this time of year and I invite all Marylanders to submit and vote online.”
Photos will be displayed on photos.maryland.gov, giving the public an opportunity to view and rate entries from around the state. Winners will be announced in January, 2010, with prize packages to be awarded. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to participate. Please see Official Contest Rules for details.
All accepted photos will be available for viewing and voting by the public as soon as possible. A grand-prize, second and third-place winners will be selected by an online public vote. The winners may be eligible for a combination of the following prizes:
* High visibility recognition on Maryland.gov websites.
* Group tickets to 2010 Orioles game
* An annual membership to the Baltimore Museum of Art
* Annual membership to the Walters Art Museum
* An annual membership to the American Visionary Art Museum
* Group tickets to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s concert entitled Pictures of Music- the Ansel Adams America concert /Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition
* Maryland: A Portrait book, signed by the Governor
* Subscription to DNR’s The Maryland Natural Resource Magazine.
* A copy of the Maryland Natural Resources 2010 Calendar
* A year-round 2010 pass to all Maryland State Parks

The Governor's Holiday Photo Contest is the first of its kind for Maryland's websites, allowing visitors to upload, share, and vote on their photos. It compliments the Maryland Archive's website, and while offering greater citizen engagement, promises to provide continued opportunities for seasonal programming and exhibition in the years to come for all Marylanders. There is no purchase or payment of any kind required to enter the Governor’s Online Holiday Photo Contest. Entries may be submitted online from December 9, 2009 until midnight, January 3, 2010.
