Hello Southern Maryland Bands, Musicians, & Audiences!
SMMO is in the process of sponsoring an Open Jam Night, which will offer the opportunity for local musicians of all ages and skill levels, aswell as, audiences to come together and experience the local musical talent that Southern Maryland has to offer.
The reason SMMO is sending out this notice, is simply to see what interest may be out there among musicians and audiences. Before SMMO futhers it search for a good location to hold this event, and select a sponsoring venue/location, which there has been alot of support from many venues that are interested in offering their location for a project such as this one, we'd simply like to know if there is enough general interest for such a project.
What we would like to do is pretty simple. SMMO wants to offer a place where musicians can seek out bands that need a particular musician, offer the opportunity for beginning and intermediate musicians to come in and play with seasoned musicians for the purposes of learning to play in a band/group situation, and to futher the learning processes of those lower skilled players. Ofcourse, we would definitley like to invite the general public, alot of people in this area like to come out and see musicians perform in such situations. Many years ago, Hot Licks Guitar Shop offered such a program, ofcourse that was decade ago, but, for particular reasons, they had to discontinue the events.
The participation of musicians and audiences was surely not the problem, Hot Licks actually could have moved to a much larger arena for their events, the "house" was always packed. The point is, there were alot of people who were very upset to see that event end. It was a great opportunity for younger, underage bands, who could not book a 21 and over venue to come out and show off what they were capable of.
SMMO would really like to get the ball rolling on this event, and would hope that there is a great deal of interest out there in general musicians and audiences.
If you would like to see a project like this come to life, and you would like to participate in such a project, send us your comments, ideas, & suggestions so that we can make a good thing better for future planning.
So, SMMO would like to simply ask you to forward this message to anyone you think would be interested in the idea, and SMMO is going to collect the feedback over the course of the month of May, and hopefully we get enough positive feedback to pursue the venture.
Thankyou,
Dwight - Editor / Webmaster
