Sen. Tillis Could Tank Trump Nominee Ed Martin, Allowing Judge Boasberg to Choose U.S. Attorney for D.C.

With the clock ticking on Martin’s interim status, the Deep State is fighting back, and Tillis has emerged as a roadblock to Martin’s nomination on the Senate Judiciary Committee, through which Martin’s nomination must pass.

Tillis, who has expressed concerns with Martin’s comments while serving as an attorney for J6 defendants, is expected to meet with Martin Monday afternoon in his Senate office.

Breitbart News asked a Tillis spokesman if the senator would support Martin’s nomination, and if not, if he believes Judge Boasberg would choose someone more preferable.

The Tillis spokesperson would not commit to the senator supporting Martin and attempted to downplay the scenario of Boasberg choosing the nominee in the event Tillis chooses to block Trump’s nominee.

Today In Republicans Being Useless: Thom Tillis Plans To Sink Ed Martin Nomination

In his Tuesday remarks, Tillis said he doesn’t expect Martin “to be advanced to the [Judiciary Committee’s] markup,” and that, “at this point, [he’s] indicated to the White House [he] wouldn’t support [Martin’s] nomination.” The Republican senator indicated that “most” of his opposition to Martin stems from “concerns” he has about the acting U.S. attorney’s stance on Jan. 6.

“He built a compelling case on some of the 15 [or] 12 prosecutions that were probably heat-of-the-moment bad decisions. But where we probably have a difference [of opinion] is I think anybody that breached the perimeter [of the Capitol] should have been in prison for some period of time,” Tillis said. “Whether it’s 30 days or three years is debatable, but I have no tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January the 6th, and that’s probably where most of the friction was.”

While Tillis acknowledged that Martin is “probably right” about there being demonstrators who were “overprosecuted” by the Biden administration for their conduct, he seemingly couldn’t help himself from gifting the leftist media the soundbites they were clearly looking for.

“We have to be very, very clear that what happened on January the 6th was wrong. … It was not prompted or created by other people to put those people in trouble. They made a stupid decision, and they disgraced the United States by absolutely destroying the Capitol,” Tillis said. “If Mr. Martin were being put forward as a U.S. attorney for any district except the district where … the protest happened, I’d probably support him. But not in this district.”

So, according to his own words, Tillis could summon the courage to vote for Martin if he were nominated for any other district attorney position except the one in D.C. But even if that were the case, it wouldn’t change Martin’s past comments about Jan. 6, which makes Tillis’ excuse completely nonsensical.

Then again, it’s not surprising Tillis would go out of his way to try and tank a Trump nominee who could deliver transformational change for Americans.

GOP SABOTAGE Trump Big Beautiful Bill, Republicans REFUSE To Approve Trump Spending Package

GOPers in Congress need to stomp on the prima donnas and hang together — or they’ll soon hang separately

With much of President Donald Trump’s agenda hinging on the “big, beautiful” budget bill, Republicans in Congress are . . . forming a circular firing squad.

They need to buckle down and figure out the compromises to get it passed — fast.

That means everyone will need to give ground — potentially including the prez.

It’s time to slaughter some golden calves.

On Friday, deficit hawks on the House Budget Committee derailed the bill, balking at “news” that it could add $3.3 trillion in red ink over the next decade.

OK: Federal spending is out of control, and the final deal could certainly stand more cuts in (still-growing!) outlays, but the GOP isn’t going to fix the serious, long-term problem of Uncle Sam’s obesity this year — not when the system for crafting and passing a budget remains as dysfunctional as it is.

GOP Senator John Thune Quietly BLOCKS Trump Recess Appointments with Sneaky Procedural Maneuver — Launches Series of Pro Forma Sessions to Keep Senate in Fake “Session” During August Recess

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R‑SD) has unveiled a procedural scheme to block President Donald Trump from making any critical appointments during the August recess, effectively aiding the Democrats’ obstructionist agenda.

Under the U.S. Constitution, the president can make “recess appointments,” temporary appointments to federal positions, if the Senate is in recess and not conducting business. These appointments don’t require immediate Senate confirmation and can last until the end of the next session of Congress.

The Biggest Hindrance To Confirming Trump’s Nominees Is John Thune

Except, the ball is not in Democrats’ court — it’s in Thune’s. Contrary to his persistent narrative about Democrat obstruction, the Senate majority leader has always possessed the power to hold the upper chamber in session until confirmation of Trump’s nominees are complete.

During a recent interview on the American Moment’s Moment of Truth podcast, The Federalist’s Rachel Bovard explained the Senate confirmation process for executive nominees and how Thune and Senate Republicans have “stepped off the gas on nominations in particular.”

“Most of the nominees confirmed in the Senate are now what we call two-hour nominees. So you invoke cloture at 51 votes, you only have to run two hours of debate, and then you can confirm them two hours later,” Bovard said. “[Senate Republicans] have left approximately 140 civilian nominations lingering on the Senate’s executive calendar … a lot of [whom are] tasked with actually getting the president’s agenda done.”

Bovard went on to detail how senators “hate” having to be on the Senate floor “working,” and that they “still don’t even work five days a week.” Between the time they “fly in Monday night” to when they leave on Thursday, The Federalist’s senior tech columnist said, “They maybe take a handful of [nomination] votes in that process.”
