Organizer of Provo protest arrested, accused of rioting, making threats

PROVO — One of the organizers of a protest in Provo that resulted in a motorist being shot was arrested on Thursday.

John Earle Sullivan, 25, of Sandy, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of rioting, making a threat of violence and criminal mischief.

On June 29, a group calling itself Back to Blue planned to drive around the Provo Police Department and honk their horns to show support for law enforcement.

Another group planned a counterprotest at the same time and place. On Facebook, its event page was originally titled End Police Brutality but was later changed to Marching for Racial Equality. The Facebook pages listed the event’s hosts as the groups Insurgence, Solidarity for Justice, Salt Lake Equal Rights Movement and the Salt Lake Antifascist Coalition.

Sullivan is part of the Insurgence USA group, according to a police affidavit.

I'm going to keep saying this - this concept that - if YOUR side is right, violence, mayhem, wanton destruction and random attacks is justified - this is the behavior of an extreme cult. It's what happens when a cult reaches this point - because it gets to where it sees the entire world as an enemy, a roadblock to its purpose. It is a waste of time to try and accommodate these sorts of people because they believe in their vision beyond any sense of reality. I've been and lived among people like this for ten years - they are first and foremost idealists. Don't believe for a minute they are stupid - they're delusional, but not stupid.

Fortunately for us, most of these idealists have never really had to face armed opposition or have any idea what it's like to be smacked down. They are almost all cowards. Many, I would say most of these people were young, and white.
Probably children of upper middle class white families who have no real idea of WTF they are supporting.
These are not ignorant people, they are probably in a college somewhere getting fed horse sh1t every day about the poor downtrodden blacks .The same people who read Uncle Tom's Cabin 150 years ago and went to war.
I won't argue the legitimacy of the cause of 150 years ago, I will argue the legitimacy of their cause today.

I agree with Bari Weiss, who was recently “cancelled” by the New York Times because her writings didn’t track leftist orthodoxy. She described the BLM mob’s behavior as “vile and un-American.”

One of the victims of the mob said she has been protesting for weeks against the police (or whatever), but that “it did not feel right” to be coerced into raising her fist. Unfortunately, she reportedly was the only person at the restaurant where she was eating to have such quintessentially American qualms or, in any case, to act on them.

The pandemic has caused those who frequent restaurants to eat outdoors, even in the horrible D.C. heat. But nothing will stand in the way of mobs coming inside restaurants to harass people when the time comes.

Years ago at Dartmouth, a mob of black protesters rampaged through the library demanding aggressively that students who were preparing for final exams join them outside at a rally. The fledgling brown shirts received no meaningful punishment from the college.

Colleges have become training grounds for brown shirts. Graduates have taken the authoritarian lessons learned there to the streets and sidewalks of America. The chickens have come home to roost.

During the BLM speech, he called for a revolution and wanted to "rip Trump out of that office" and didn't want to wait for the next election.

Sullivan is a not a Trump supporter at all and has said he is an “antiestablishment” activist and is a supporter of the BLM movement.

He had been convicted on seven counts with Obstruction of an Official Proceeding; Civil Disorder; Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building; Aiding and Abetting.

He claimed to be a journalist during the course of the trial. "I was only observing," Sullivan said in his trial testimony. "I followed the crowd. I'm there to document."

Sullivan said in the BLM speech he has been part of a Salt Lake City, Utah extremist group called Insurgence USA in order to fight against a “white militia” group in the city.
