Orioles reach multi-year agreement with Chen Wei-yin - baltimoresun.com

The Orioles have reached a multi-year agreement with 26-year-old Taiwanese left-hander, Chen Wei-yin, according to an industry source.

The deal, which is pending physical, is for three years, according to the source.
One industry source said the total value of the deal likely will not exceed $12 million, so it's roughly $4 million or less per year.

It would be the second major-league signing of a Nippon Professional Baseball pitcher this offseason by the Orioles, who inked Tsuyoshi Wada to a $8.15 million, two-year deal in December.

Chen, who pitched for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan, posted a 2.68 ERA in 164 2/3 innings last season.

FoxSports.com first wrote that the Orioles and Chen were close to a deal.

Maybe, just maybe if the O's get some good "arms" we can win a few more games!

I knew what you were referring to, it was old 10+ years ago! :buddies: Hopefully we can continue the good dealing of this off season, we need more than just a couple of pitchers though.

Pitching is definitely the weak spot. They score a lot of runs, but when they give up 10 runs in a game, it's difficult to win. Orioles have an impressive batting lineup though.

What's with sports teams outsourcing to foreign countries? Are Americans not good enough? Do they want too much money to do the same job? Do these athletes get a green card or are they just more illegals taking jobs from US citizens?

They seem to handle adversity better and require less maintenance overall.

Major League Sports are where the world's best athletes play, not just Americans. Soccer aside, we have the highest level of competition in all venues of sports. Just like every once in awhile an America becomes good enough to go to Premier League or somewhere like that, you have athletes from other geographic areas who become dominant enough to play here. Since they become open market free agents instead of going through a draft, the level of competition between teams becomes a little more aggressive and makes for more publicity. It happens alot of time with minor league type players, it just doesn't make as much press.

Alot of Americans play in European basketball leagues because they are the "1-under" leagues. People who are trying to get into the NBA, or get their career back will go there, same for South American or Japanese baseball leagues.
