Has anyone dealt with Dr. Michael Travis at Southern Maryland Orthopedics?
I need to have surgery on my wrist for a tear and the Dr. that I went to is out of network and they want me to put a deposit of 700 down for the procedure. :cds: Like I have that kind of money laying around. :evil:So he suggested that I find some one in network. I don't like Cox. but I also don't want to be traveling to far. Anyone have any good recommendations? TIA

Cox and Travis work together at So MD Ortho. Cox worked on my shoulder, but I've heard a lot of good things about Travis.

I've never needed ortho surgery; however, my professional opinion is that he is a highly competent doctor specifically with hand and wrist surgeries. I'm certain you'll be in good hands (no pun intended).

I see Dr. Cox and if I ever decide to have the back surgery he will team up with Dr. Henderson for the eight hour procedure. My aunt used Henderson and liked him.

I'm not sure where you are, but I have seen Dr. Bryan Herron in Prince Frederick for my hand. He was also the ortho on call when my daughter went through urgent care for a dislocated toe. He was wonderfully patient with her, even though she was scared to death because of what the urgent care docs had done. I really liked him as well. He has excellent equipment right in the office and seems very thorough and knowledgeable.

Dr. Travis did a tendon transfer on my hand. I have nothing but great things to say about him. You will love him. The type of person you wouldn't mind having a beer with. Great manner, you feel like he is working for you.

Thanks for that tip. :flowers:I have seen Dr.:gossip: before years ago and just didn't hit it off with him. If i don't like ya I surely don't want you cutting on my wrist. If he is as you say then I think I may check him out. :high5:

How long did it take you before you were back to full capacity? This will be the first ever surgery I have had..So I'm leary, we'll scared:yikes: But I can't let it go on. It needs to be fixed. So I can roll on.... So BeenSpur'd when ya getting that back fixed?:coffee:

Out of the brace in about three weeks, in six months I could lift my thumb without having to think about it and was released.

Well I don't think mine is that bad. It's on the outside of the wrist joint that has a tear, next to the lil bone you have on your wrist. So it will affect my pinky some my Dr. said..and a hard cast for 6 weeks...:cds: that's going to kill me...:killingme

Where Cox does not have the best bedside manner, he is the one that did my Carpal Tunnel surgery and it has been fine for 8 yrs. now. I have met their new Dr., her name is Dr. Turner and I like her a lot but she is a bone specialist. You will be fine. I have not heard anything bad about Dr. Travis at all. Good Luck to you! :huggy:

I would check with your insurance company for a list of approved doctors in your area. My insurance website has a search I can do there which is helpful. All I can say is DO NOT go to Dr. Bauk!

If you don't mind travelling a little..........go to Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Annapolis! The doctors there are fantastic, the staff is very, very friendly and I have never waited longer than 10 minutes in the waiting area. I have my knee worked on, but the guy next to me was having his shoulder worked on. Worth a trip! PM me for the phone numbers. They have an office in Annapolis and Millersville. These guys are the best - and if they don't like your MRI - they send you downstairs to use theirs and then they read it right awaty. Great, great guys!
