Hey buddy, ESPN is saying that the Yankees have their sights set on Pedro Martinez!

What do you think?

Will Steinbrenner shell out the big bucks for him?

Pedro probably doesn't have 20 wins left in his tank(IMO), so I think it would be another great move by George to over-rule his baseball people and sign Pedro to a HUGE contract. Pedro leaving would free up alot of money for the Sox to sign more valuable BoSox players and free agents.

I'd bet the Yanks would be purrfectly happy to get 15 to 17 wins out him for a couple of more years.

He's what? 33, so he might be able to go 3 more years, with that bullpen behind him.

Actually, I think he wants to go to NY, the greatest baseball home in the world!

I hope he ends up with the Yanks. In my eyes, he's very comparable physically to Ron Guidry..If I remember correctly, Guidry was done by the time he was 34 or 35 and I doubt he had a winning record over the last 2 or 3 yrs of his career. Pedro is not a bull like Clemens(who the bosox made a mistake on), his next few yrs will be full of injuries.

Yeah, you're talking about "Louisiana Lighting". I never did understand how a guy built as slight as he was could get the velocity he did on his fastball.

But, I don't think Guidry had such a great command of his curve and slider, and even change up that Martinez has. That combination may keep him around as a winner a little longer, possibly.

However, it might be interesting to see how the Red Sox would fare against
their old teammate - Pedro.

Would they be able to hit him? Heck, they've never batted against him, I don't think, so he'd probably baffle the he!! out of them.

This is akin...

...to Roger Staubach coming to DC.

If the real animosity between Pedro and all of Yankee land can be set aside for the sake of winning, then, truly, all is lost.
