Out of the wicked comes wickedness

Why should we do anything to avenge ourselves or anyone when David says "Out of the wicked comes wickedness"?

13 As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness.’ But my hand shall not be against you.

David could have killed King Saul and probably been justified in man's eyes but David said, "But my hand shall not be against you."

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

OK. Are you going somewhere with this?

10 Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the Lord gave you today into my hand in the cave. And some told me to kill you, but I spared you.[c] I said, ‘I will not put out my hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed.’ 11 See, my father, see the corner of your robe in my hand. For by the fact that I cut off the corner of your robe and did not kill you, you may know and see that there is no wrong or treason in my hands. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt my life to take it. 12 May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you.

16 As soon as David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” And Saul lifted up his voice and wept. 17 He said to David, “You are more righteous than I, for you have repaid me good, whereas I have repaid you evil.

Yes. I'm studying the passage.

Yes. I'm studying the passage.

Always a good thing digging into the word. I agree with the verses you quoted - leave the "vengeance" part against an individual to God's final judgement.

This is probably a rabbit trail, but where do you stand on self defense? I am all for defending one and theirs from an immediate threat. Nowhere does the Bible say it is wrong to defend oneself, and it clearly states that it is an obligation of one to protect life of one in danger, and to preserve the life of one who is taking it themselves.

Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”

“Nothing,” they answered.

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

“That’s enough!” he replied.

and yet Jesus tells Peter to put away his sword and heals the ear of the soldier. BTW, how do you reconcile self defense with Mathew 5:39?

This is meant to be a metaphor for... if you are attacked for your faith, do not retaliate in kind. Jesus is talking about the spiritual act of evil. This does not mean you shouldn't defend yourself, your family, your friends, and your country from physical harm.

As much as you antis want to point out contradictions, you continually overlook that when Jesus was speaking about these things, He was speaking in spiritual terms. We still have to operate in this physical world as Christians; and in order to do this, we have to ensure our safety.

and yet Jesus said if the thief demands your shirt, give them your cloak too. Not sure how you get that he was talking about just spiritual things out of that. I think Jesus was saying trust in God to take care of you and worry about your eternal soul not material things. But I think you actually believe Jesus would want you to shoot someone stealing from you. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
