Does anyone know of any one or business that is giving away dog kennels? I have searched all over freecycle and craigslist. None are available or I am too late when they are. I have a 40 pound pit mix and a 5 pound chi-rat that I need to contain outside for when spring and summer are here. I work all day (6:30-7)and my husband who is usually home with them is leaving in May for the army, so I wold hate for them to be stuck in a small crate all day. I have thought of tie outs, but I can't stand the thought of coming home to see them all tangled up or worse. And if I tie them up seperately they couldnt play together and the chi-rat will buck against it nonstop to play with my other puppy (I've tried it before). So if anyone is giving one away or knows some one who is, please let me know.

Im gonna say this may not go well....

My thought.... they are safer inside in crates than outside where they can excape, get hurt trying to excape, suffer from heat stroke

you never will know till you get home if they have knocked over the water and have none...

at least if they are inside you know they are safe....and not hurt!

ALL of my dogs crate during the day.... and i feel better knowing they are not outside and I could come home to one dead from heat stroke (see this all the time at work)

next thing.... is if you dont have the money for the kennel...but do happen to find a kennel.... how would you pay if something happend like they had a laceration from digging out, hit by car, or heat stroke :coffee:

Oh but you bring up a very good point! I myself would never consider leaving mine outside if I was not home. Something as simple as a bee sting could put them in agony for hours and no one would know.

I take it no fenced yard? At my last house I built a large kennel under the trees, with a kiddie pool and large insulted dog house. Took my measurments to a fence company, they loaded up my truck with the supplies, I set the posts in cement and stretched the chainlink myself. $300 for 200sqft kennel.

Now, I have a large fenced yard with trees and a doggy door. My GSD is a happy girl.
