It's peach-pickin' time in some parts of Maryland, and the crop is expected to be large.

The U.S. Agriculture Department says Maryland growers will harvest 10.5 million pounds of peaches this year. That's a 50 percent increase from last year's drought-shriveled crop.

Growers in Montgomery and Cecil county report that early varieties are now available.

Further west, growers in the Catoctin Mountain fruit belt say it'll be a few more weeks before their peaches are ripe.

Where's the best place in Southern Maryland to get some local peaches? :yum:

Migtig , I grew up an army brat and my Dad was stationed in Ft Benning a few times and we settled in Columbus when he retired , I went to high school there and a few yrs of college before I married my hubby ( he was my high school sweetheart then he joined the navy ) so I consider Georgia my home state  , I still miss it , used to visit my parents all the time when we lived in Florida , my brother lives north of Atlanta, I think thats where I would like to retire to ... haven't decided yet . Go Braves

Sshhh demes fightin words around here! :lmao: The burbs of Atlanta - like Dunwoody, ain't too bad, but I am not sure how close I would want to live to Atlanta proper. The Stone Mountain area isn't bad either. But I personally would head back down towards Savannah or maybe even Brunswick.

I have relatives in the Chamblee-Dunwoody area.

When I was eleven, my father relocated and moved us to that area. At the time, I had an uncle in Hapeville. That was real "small town" at then, and had another uncle south of Atlanta, can't remember the name of the town now, but it was even smaller. I saw my first snow in GA.

Buford is really nice, when I am visiting my brother it seems like we are out in the country, but 10 minutes down the road and you're at the MALL OF GEORGIA

I saw a lot of snow in Columbus one year when I was young ... '72 i think it was.

I remember the first snow I saw in GA (since I was in an area where it never snowed) vividly. I had just got my license and was racing back from Garden City into Savannah and all this weird white stuff started floating around. I thought the Dixie Sugar plant had exploded! :lmao: The cars in front of me pulled off to the side, so I did to, and everybody got out and we watched it snow. Never even touched the ground. Once it stopped, we all got back in our cars and went our merry way!
