I am thinking about being my own GC and wanted to know if any of you folks could suggest some good reliable contractors. Also, any advice, other than taking lots and lots of meds, from those that have done this before.
I don't know of any good ones up there but I know of a bad one...Paul Bennett.
I have recently done major re-doing of the house we are in now. We bought it almost four years ago and were in the process of replacing just about everything from floors to walls when my husband got a job up there and we now have to move. We are buying a house that is newer so I hope we will not have to do major construction.
We learned a lot and got most of our "how tos" on the internet and the only thing we were not able to do was replacement windows, the front door and the pipes for the new bathroom we installed. The rest was all done by my husband and I. I suggest you have someone help you in this that is as commited as you are. I can't imagine doing this alone.
Also you will need all of the wonderful tools. A nail gun is a must have. Just be careful with it. Most plumbers and contractors don't want you to do the most of the work, it is their living so they want to do it all. The trick is getting a friend of a friend. Our plumber was a friend so we did all of the prep work and finishing work.
Good luck and I will ask some of my friends up there who they used.
