I listen quite a bit and it's time for me to cough up the $36/year and get righteous.

Do I want them or do I want a different service? I haven't tried Spotify, although my TV has an app for it :)lol: it still cracks me up that my TV has apps).

What do you all use for music?

I have sirius, it's in my car, on my phone, on my laptop and I think I can put it on my kindle if I want. I'm not all that impressed with it, doubt I'll renew in June. I like Radio 365, I've paid for that and it has a million genres, just can't get it in my car.

I have Pandora also and pay the annual. I am now streaming it on my Roku along with Shout-Cast, AccuRadio and TuneIn. I can get Spotify but know nothing about it. Pandora is great but the wife and me lately have switched more to Shout-Cast. We will renew one more year in Feb for Pandora and decide after that.

Yeah Sirius XM used to be great, but they are starting to play the same songs a lot and the DJs are blabbing about nothing more and more. Getting old.

I would stay away from Spotify, my daughter did a trial membership there, (using my debit card), she cancelled membership, but they kept charging. We called several times, they say ok, it is cancelled...next month they charge again. I finally had to get new debit card with new number.

I've been thinking the same thing. I like Pandora, I zone out during the ad's but wonder how that 36 would make experience better? Maybe i'll use you as a trial ballon and you can report back.... :buddies:

SPONGE is the station/artist i listening to most now. All the similar artists make for good listening!!!

Pandora is OK, and I do pay $36 annually. My beef is that their music isn't all that varied. Every time I put in an artist, the similar ones that come up I'm already well-familiar with. I mean come on, is there anyone who is a serious Allman Brothers Band fan who isn't already familiar with Warren Haynes' or Derek Trucks' musical output? I can't remember the last time a band was played which was new to me. Nonetheless, it is a nice convenience to have on my smartphone and my roku rig at home.

I've not checked out spotify or slacker radio, and probably never will. I did, however, pay for the TuneIn premium app from the android store and have access to a ton of good stuff, much more than just music. Lots of BBC stuff, old time radio stuff, and radio streams from all over the world.

For serious listening, it will always be on CD or vinyl at home in my listening room.

Edit: I've had SIRIUS for 6 months free that came with a car I purchased, but the programming is terrible. Didn't continue it, and will never purchase it. Satellite radio days are numbered. Once Howard Stern leaves, so does the audience. The "radio" model in automobiles will change; we'll all have 4g or faster data plans on our car, and "radio" will be a series of apps on a touch panel.

You need to mix stations in the app to.get more genre. My current favorite is a Rammstein, System of a Down, house blend. I will get the occasional wtf death metal song, but I have heard a lot of new bands doing that. It also keeps it mixed up. Fiance has a country and top 40 mix station.

Just looked at it, just tap on the station and it will say add variety under it.

I have not felt the need to pay for it as the longer I listen to a station the less ads I hear. Not sure if it's just on wife or what as I am not in my truck for very long. I have listened for maybe 4 hours with but maybe 3 or 4 ads. Unlimited skips would be nice, but for $3 a month I can handle a few 30 minute ads.

Definitly agree. You need to mix up the artists or genre with more artists. I have heard a lot of new artists that way. I go with the pay version to eliminate the commercials, and 3 dollars a month is chump change...Saves me from spending it 2 Double-Cheese Burgers at Micky D's....:dye:

Other than more skips, one other benefit of Pandora paid is you get a higher bit rate stream (better quality) when you are using a web browser (not apps).

I know about the "add variety" feature, but my complaint is still the same.

Let's say I really like the Allman Brothers Band and Steve Vai. I can add Steve as variety to my ABB channel, but still: I get the same "related artist" plays for each, now I just have them on a single channel rather than having to switch from my ABB channel to my SV channel, if that makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, Pandora is still pretty cool, it just doesn't work for me the way that I enjoy consuming music. It does fill a need, it's just not perfect, IMO.

While I feel no moral obligation or compulsion to pay the state of Maryland, I do like to kick in for software or a service that I use frequently, even if I don't *have* to. It rewards the developer and keeps them interested so they'll continue with upgrades, new innovations, etc. Plus it's just the right thing to do, paying someone for their service or product.

$3/month for unlimited music service seems completely reasonable to me; cheap, even.

Ass-hole
Years ago, I tried Pandora and Slacker. I found Slacker had a bigger library with more songs, but that could have changed since I last used them.

This is your captain!
Used to use Pandora One, but they changed their skip policy such that it was harsher than before - 6 skips per hour per station, to (I think) 6 skips/hour over all stations.

I went to slacker, where I pay $4/month, and have unlimited skips. The phone interface is nicer as well.
