Paranoia may be more common than thought

Paranoia is defined as the exaggerated or unfounded fear that others are trying to hurt you. That includes thoughts that other people are trying to upset or annoy you, for example, by staring, laughing, or making unfriendly gestures.

Surveys of several thousands of people in Britain, the United States and elsewhere have found that rates of paranoia are slowly rising, although researchers' estimates of how many of us have paranoid thoughts varies widely, from 5 percent to 50 percent.

I had a paranoid moment this morning.

I'm alone at home and hear somebody fiddling with the front door. I go to the back door, and I'm ready to run to an unknown neighbor's house and call 911.

Dutch opens the front door and I hear, "You are smoking in the house"!

Damn.

Call me so I can at least take out the Lysol first.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get me.

I think you have to be a little bit paranoid now days, else people will take advantage of you or screw you over somehow. That's to be expected anywhere you work anymore. Expect to be talked about, annoyed, and stabbed in the back, and prepare to counter it, else you're going to fail.

So productivity and performance mean nothing in the work place?

So that's what I've been doing wrong all these years!

You seem very un happy with your job... Why not find another one?

No, actually, I LOVE my job. I just hate the people I have to work with sometimes. Unfortunately, changing jobs won't solve that problem. There are unproductive/disruptive people everywhere... you can't run from that by changing jobs. You just have to find creative solutions to dealing with them.

Paranoia just happens to give me an edge to stay one-step ahead of their ambitious schemes.

I'm sold!

I have to get myself one of these jobs people keep talking about someday. They seem like fun!
